Life of Pi bags 4 Oscars

Ang Lee’s Life of Pi today bagged 4 Oscars at the 85th Academy Awards in Los Angeles, United States. Ang Lee beat master Directors like Steven Spielberg and Michael Haneke to take home the best director Oscar for “Life of Pi”, his visually stunning 3D tale of an Indian boy adrift in the ocean for months with a Bengal tiger. Besides, Life of Pi claimed the top honour in the best Original Score, Best Visual Effects, and best Cinematography categories.
Bombay Jayshri, the sole Indian nominee at the this year’s Oscars lost the Best Original Song trophy to British singer Adele, who won the statuette for her soulful rendition of James Bond theme ‘Skyfall’.
The Oscar for Best actor went to Daniel Day-Lewis for ‘Lincoln’.
22-year-old Jennifer Lawrence defeated the oldest and youngest Oscar nominees to clinch the Best Actress Oscar for her role in David O Russell’s ‘Silver Linings Playbook’. ‘Argo’ won the Oscar for the Best Picture. Christoph Waltz won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role of a German bounty hunter in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’.
Anne Hathaway took home the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Tom Hooper’s musical, ‘Les Miserables’.
Austrian ‘Amour’ (Love), a poignant drama about a retired music teacher’s desire to die as she struggles with old age, won the Best Foreign Film trophy.
The Oscar for the Best animated short film went to John Kahrs, Paperman.
The award for the Best costume was bagged by Jacqueline Durran for the movie, Anna Karenina.Lisa Westcott and Julie Dartnell clinched the Oscar for the Best Makeup and Hairstyling for Les Miserables.
The Oscar for the Best Documentary Short Subject went to Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine for ‘Inocente’.
Shawn Christensen claimed the Oscar for the Best Live-Action Short Film for ‘Curfew’.The Oscar for the Best Documentary feature was bagged by Malik Bendjelloul and Simon Chinn, for, “Searching for Sugar Man’.
