Punjab poll for the election of 117 seats on 30 Jan

Punjab, today is the last day for withdrawal of candidature from the field for the election of 117 seats of Punjab Assembly for which polling is being held on January 30 and results will be declared on March six.More than two thousand candidates had filed their nominations out of which more than 800 nominations were rejected.

Meanwhile, four Station Head Officers (SHOs) of police stations has been transferred on the orders of the Election Commission. They were allegedly helping candidates in their respective constituencies. Four other officers have also been shifted.

The Election Commission has also issued instructions for use of aircraft or helicopter during campaign saying that if any candidate travels in an aircraft or helicopter along with a star campaigner half of expenditure of the travel expenses will be added to candidate’s expenditure. Former India hockey captain Pargat Singh has joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ahead of Punjab elections this month.
He will contest from the Jalandhar Cantonment constituency.
 Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal from Lambi and Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh (Patiala City).  Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal (Jalalabad) and Raninder (Samana) respectively.
Another former Chief MInister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal is seeking re-election from Lehra.
