India And Japan to Cooperate in Infrastructure Sector
Japanese Minister for Transport and Tourism Calls on CP Joshi
Mr. Takeshi Maeda, Minister for Land, Infrastructure, Transport & Tourism (MLITT), Government of Japan along with a high level delegation from the Policy Bureau of the MLITT called on Dr. CP Joshi, Minister of Road Transport and Highways in New Delhi today. Both the Ministers discussed bilateral cooperation in infrastructure sector with special reference to road construction

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is in the process of finalizing a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) proposed to be signed with its Japanese counterpart Ministry for Land, Infrastructure, and Transport & Tourism. The proposed MOC will enable Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to exchange technical knowledge and expertise in the Road Transportation and Highways sector including capacity building and advanced technology for roads road transport management system and intelligent transport system.

Japanese companies have been participating in National Highways Development Programme (NHDP) of India as “Supervision Consultants”. Four projects have already been completed where their performance has been satisfactory. India is also a beneficiary of Japanese cooperation through Japan Bank for International Co-operation (JBIC) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Mr. Maeda’s visit is in the context of State visit by Mr. Yoshihiko Noda, Prime Minister of Japan to India wherein a Joint Statement was issued by both the Prime Ministers, inter-alia recognizing the bilateral co-operation in the infrastructure sector including cooperation in the development of expressways in India and capacity building,
