Kokrajhar & Chirang districts in Assam in communal violence

Assam government has issued alert notice to 10 districts on the North bank of the river Brahmaputra to avert any possible disturbance in the wake of ongoing violence in Kokrajhar and Chirang district.

This came as Violence in lower Assam's Kokrajhar has spread to neighbouring Chirang district where five persons were killed.

Unidentified miscreants hacked to death three persons in Hasrao Bazar of Chirang district last evening.

According to police in another incident in the same district, two persons were shot dead by a gang at Mongolian Bazaar in Bijni town.

One more person died later. With this, the toll in the group clashes shot up to 18 in the two districts. A vehicle was also set ablaze earlier in the district.

Meanwhile, in trouble-torn Kokrajhar district, a DIG-ranked police official and three others were injured in a mob attack.

Ten more additional companies of Central Reserve Police Force, CRPF are being dispatched to maintain law and order in violence hit areas.

Night curfew has been in force in both the districts.
