Has Gossips of axe of Rakesh Sarna, Managing Director and CEO, Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL-Taj Group), at a speed that no one expected?
Rakesh Sarna may have faced the axe for two reasons: (a) allegations of sexual harassment that have been vigorously denied; and (b) the Tajness initiative itself, which was seen as a move to overturn the painstaking re-branding of the chain, initiated when Ratan Tata was Chairman of Tata Sons and his favourite, Raymond Bickson, was at the helm of the hotels, into three layers -- Taj, Vivanta by Taj and The Gateway. Bickson, incidentally, was the first group chief executive to be sacked by the ousted chairman, Cyrus Mistry, that too in the first year of a five-year extension approved by the board.
