Russia, China sign natural gas deal

Russia has signed a 400-billion-dollar natural gas supply deal with China.

Officials from Russia’s state-controlled firm Gazprom and the China National Petroleum Corporation signed the contract in Shanghai on Wednesday. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping attended.
A spokesperson for Gazprom says under the contract, the company will supply natural gas to China through a new pipeline over a period of 30 years.
China’s official Xinhua news agency reports the shipments will begin in 2018.
Russian and Chinese officials have been negotiating the shipment of gas to China for a long time.
