May 22, 2014: WWF-India, Lodi Estate, New Delhi

There is a growing recognition that biological diversity is a global asset of tremendous value to present and future generations. Moreover, there is an increasing awareness and involvement to transform risks into new business opportunities.
On invitation of the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF), Government of India, CII is launching the India Business & Biodiversity Initiative (IBBI) with support of the German International Cooperation (GIZ). IBBI intends to serve as a national platform of businesses and their stakeholders for dialogue, sharing and learning, ultimately leading to mainstreaming sustainable management of biological diversity into businesses.
On the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22, 2014, the CII is organising theLaunch of India Business & Biodiversity Initiative (IBBI) at 1500 hrs. The venue for the launch is Godrej Auditorium, WWF-India, 172-B, Lodi Estate, New Delhi.

Compare Netscape-Microsoft, Gadkari-Kejriwal, ONGC-RIL
May21, 2014
Last week I was watching Microsoft story and Microsoft asserted its
dominating $500b clout to defeat Competition and it was very
embarrassing and long drawn court battle.
http://lsr.nellco.org/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1170&context=nyu_lewp
Bill Gates settled the damages with Complainants to the tune of $3b or so.
But ONGC case is direct theft yet no owner of RIL had ever been
required to be present in any court in cheat and theft case. For 15
years there is no action.
ONGC after CAG exposed RIL was Drilling in ONGC blocks 2013 – had to
file a weak case. ONGC did tell the court that RIL was drilling within
meters of ONGC discovery and block but didn’t tell that RIL engaged
most powerful Rigs to could reach over 45,000 ft or over 14 kilometers
which means entire ONGC Oil & Gas well.
This is not turned in to a CRIMINAL CASE.
But Arvind Kejriwal making allegations of Corruption were challenged
by Nitin Gadari but Arvind Kejriwal is put in jail.
What a wonderfully corrupt judiciary we have. Court documents related
to 15-20 years old case – started in 1994 when Netscape introduced its
Internet Browser.
I can’t understand that firstly Ministry of Justice does not initiate
Probes against Misconduct of Companies harming Public and State
interest, second fail to act on Complaints and third put in jail
Whistle Blowers.

ONGC Moves HC over KG-D6 Dispute
May 16 2014 The Economic Times (Delhi)
SAMANWAYA RAUTRAY
Notices issued to oilmin, DGH, RIL; PSU may claim compensation of over
Rs.25,000 cr for gas drawn by RIL from reservoir
NGC has alleged that Reliance Industries may have drawn natural gas
worth thousands of crores of rupees from a common reservoir in the
KG-D6 block, and taken the matter to the Delhi High Court, accusing
the oil ministry and its technical arm of turning a blind eye to the
issue.
Justice Manmohan issued notices to the Union government, the
Directorate General of Hydrocarbon (DGH), and RIL, and posted the case
for further hearing on May 29.
ONGC told the court that it wants a “truly independent“ agency to
examine the matter, and compensation from RIL if the independent
agency finds that the private company has drawn gas from a common
reservoir. ONGC counsel Dushyant Dave later told reporters that ONGC
may claim compensation of over Rs.25,000 cr
Government counsel Neeraj Chaudhari accepted the notice. He said the
issues were being sorted out in a joint committee comprising RIL and
ONGC under the aegis of the DGH. “Meetings are going, they (ONGC) are
taking part,“ he contended.
Reliance said ONGC’s litigation was unwarranted as the two firms had
constructively engaged in sharing data and resolving the matter with
the help of a thirdparty expert ¬ the most recent meeting being as
late as on May 9.
“ONGC and RIL have jointly signed Minutes of a Meeting to record such
an understanding. Any inference prior to such assessment is mere
speculation and commencement of legal proceedings at this juncture is
unwarranted. Any claims of any impropriety on the part of RIL, if
these have been made, are baseless and RIL will take appropriate steps
to safeguards its position and rights,“ RIL said in an emailed
statement.
ONGC has now dragged even the former Director General of Hydrocarbons
and its administrative ministry to court. ONGC said the DGH should
have been vigilant while clearing RIL’s field development plan, which
involved drilling wells “at such a tantalisingly close distance of 50
metres to 350 metres“ from the common boundary of the blocks. It also
said that the Management Committee, which has two government
representatives, should not have approved RIL’s plans to drill wells
near ONGC’s block, particularly when it had access to RIL’s data.
Reliance said its plans had been approved by the committee. “All
petroleum operations undertaken by RIL have been in accordance with
the Production Sharing Contract and the Development Plan approved by
Management Committee which has Government representatives with veto
powers. All well locations and well profiles have been specifically
reviewed and approved by the Management Committee,“ RIL said in the
statement. A government official, who did not want to be identified,
expressed surprise that ONGC had taken up the matter only last year,
many years after RIL’s development plan was approved.
412. Most harmful of all is the message that Microsoft’s actions have
conveyed to
every enterprise with the potential to innovate in the computer
industry. Through its conduct
toward Netscape, IBM, Compaq, Intel, and others, Microsoft has
demonstrated that it will use its
prodigious market power and immense profits to harm any firm that
insists on pursuing
initiatives that could intensify competition against one of
Microsoft’s core products. Microsoft’s
past success in hurting such companies and stifling innovation deters
investment in technologies
and businesses that exhibit the potential to threaten Microsoft. The
ultimate result is that some
innovations that would truly benefit consumers never occur for the
sole reason that they do not
coincide with Microsoft’s self-interest.
A. The Netscape Web browser
69. Netscape Navigator possesses three key middleware attributes that
endow it with the potential to diminish the applications barrier to
entry. First, in contrast to non-Microsoft, Intel-compatible PC
operating systems, which few users would want to use on the same PC
systems that carry their copies of Windows, a browser can gain
widespread use based on its value as a complement to Windows. Second,
because Navigator exposes a set (albeit a limited one) of APIs, it can
serve as a platform for other software used by consumers. A browser
product is particularly well positioned to serve as a platform for
network-centric applications that run in association with Web pages.
Finally, Navigator has been ported to more than fifteen different
operating systems. Thus, if a developer writes an application that
relies solely on the APIs
exposed by Navigator, that application will, without any porting, run
on many different operating systems.
70. Adding to Navigator’s potential to weaken the applications barrier
to entry is the fact that the Internet has become both a major
inducement for consumers to buy PCs for the first time and a major
occupier of the time and attention of current PCs users. For any firm
looking to turn its browser product into an applications platform such
to rival Windows, the intense consumer interest in all things
Internet-related is a great boon.
71. Microsoft knew in the fall of 1994 that Netscape was developing
versions of a Web browser to run on different operating systems. It
did not yet know, however, that Netscape would employ Navigator to
generate revenue directly, much less that the product would evolve in
such a way as to threaten Microsoft. In fact, in late December 1994,
Netscape’s chairman and chief executive officer (“CEO”), Jim Clark,
told a Microsoft executive that the focus of Netscape’s business would
be applications running on servers and that Netscape did not intend to
succeed at Microsoft’s expense.
72. As soon as Netscape released Navigator on December 15, 1994, the
product began to enjoy dramatic acceptance by the public; shortly
after its release, consumers were already using Navigator far more
than any other browser product. This alarmed Microsoft, which feared
that Navigator’s enthusiastic reception could embolden Netscape to
develop Navigator into an alternative platform for applications
development. In late May 1995, Bill Gates, the chairman and CEO of
Microsoft, sent a memorandum entitled “The Internet Tidal Wave” to
Microsoft’s executives describing Netscape as a “new competitor ‘born’
on the Internet.” He warned his colleagues within Microsoft that
Netscape was “pursuing a multi-platform strategy where they move the
key API into the client to commoditize the underlying operating
system.” By the late
spring of 1995, the executives responsible for setting Microsoft’s
corporate strategy were deeply concerned that Netscape was moving its
business in a direction that could diminish the applications barrier
to entry.

Long before data journalism entered the mainstream discourse, La Nacion was pushing the boundaries of what was possible in Argentina, a country without any freedom of information law. If you look back into La Nacion’s efforts to go online and start to treat data as a source, you’ll find Angélica “Momi” Peralta Ramos, the multimedia development manager who originally launched LaNacion.com in the 1990s and now manages its data journalism efforts.

AirAsia receives ‘A320 Family Best Operational Excellence’ award from Airbus

22052014
Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: cid:image001.png@01CD7A2A.808EF500

SEPANG, 22 May 2014 – AirAsia’s competence in planning and maximizing utilization of its Airbus A320 aircraft fleet and ensuring top-notch despatch reliability has garnered the ‘A320 Family Best Operational Excellence’ Award from Airbus, at the A320 Family Symposium Kuala Lumpur 2014 yesterday.

AirAsia Group Head of Engineering, Anaz Ahmad Tajuddin attended the symposium and received the award on behalf of the AirAsia Group.

The verdict for the operational excellence award was based on a two-year collection of operational data pertaining to the number of aircraft in the airline’s fleet that are operational, average daily usage, dispatch reliability and the time of flight delays caused by aircraft technical reasons.

AirAsia has performed brilliantly in all these areas, and most notably was its quick turnaround of 25 minutes which displayed the optimum and efficient use of the airline’s fleet of A320s.

It also demonstrates the A320 as a robust aircraft in withstanding LCC operations and AirAsia’s meticulous maintenance of its fleet to ensure continuous flight operations with minimal technical disruptions.

AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes said, “The A320 is the crown jewel of our operations, a reliable and cost-efficient asset most suitable for our LCC operations, enabling us to achieve great operational results. Its brilliant performance is due to the manufacturer’s great understanding of our operational needs and AirAsia engineering’s diligence in ensuring every single aircraft in our fleet are always in the best condition.

“We thank Airbus for the prestigious recognition, a testament to our great efforts in generating high performance while being the world’s lowest cost airline, providing superior operational reliability and customer service. The award also acknowledges the commitment of our Allstars in ensuring constant operational excellence and productivity.”

The A320 single-aisle jetliner family is the world’s best-selling, single-aisle aircraft family. It is used in a full range of services from very short-haul airline routes to intercontinental segments.*

AirAsia stamps its dominance in Asia with a record total of 475 single aisle A320s and A320neos on order with Airbus.

Didier Lux, Head of Airbus Customer Services said: “We are proud of being part of AirAsia’s success with our great A320 Family product and our efficient support teams. We congratulate AirAsia for its excellent performance with the A320 Family in service. This demonstrates that it is possible to combine a very fast growth, stringent LCC operation with high aircraft utilization and an impressive dispatch reliability performance. We look forward to continuing the successful cooperative with AirAsia in the future with many more aircraft in the fleet.”

AirAsia is also the world’s first airline which took delivery of an Airbus A320 aircraft installed with Sharklet wing tips, becoming the first operator of the new fuel-saving large wing tip devices and the world’s first operator outside of China of a fully-assembled Airbus A320 aircraft from Tianjin, China.

The airline group partners with world renowned maintenance providers to ensure that its fleet is always performing in the safe and best requirements.

At present, the AirAsia Group operates 158 Airbus A320s and services the most extensive network with 88 destinations.
