SURAJKUND INTERNATIONAL CRAFTS MELA 2013 GRACED BY KARNATAKA

Karnataka is the theme state for the 27th International Crafts Mela at Surajkund near New Delhi to be held from 1-15,Feb 2013. For the first time since 1994 that Karnataka is getting this opportunity to take centre stage at a mela with increasing international interest. The Govt. is pooling together all its resources to ensure this will be a
benchmark event.
Sharing these details with the media today, Minister for Tourism Sri. Anand Singh said that the end objective is to use this as a testing ground for an annual event of  this scale at Bangalore. “Travellers coming to Bangalore and Karnataka too need
to be enlightened about our State’s culture, folklore, cuisines and other aspects of  the state. There has to be a Bangalore-centric event so that more people are attracted and visit our land. Our land has the culture, traditions and
vibrancy more than almost any other place in the country. If  it can be done at Surajkund, why can we not do it here, when we have better climate and all other favourable resources”? asked Sri. Singh.
The opportunity lies in more than one million people visiting the Mela. This is crucial to creating a brand image of  the variety of  attractions and experiences the State has to offer to discerning travellers.
Also, with the upcoming summer holidays, this is an opportunity to invite people’s attention to Karnataka.
Sri. Anand Singh said that Karnataka – the land, in all it’s splendour will be depicted at the mela. True to the tourism
branding of  ‘One State. Many Worlds’, the many worlds in Karnataka will be showcased. The mela will be a physical
presentation of  this theme.
