Conference of Central and States Statistical Organizations to be held in Gangtok, Sikkim on 10-11 January, 2013
Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation is organizing a two day Conference of Central and States Statistical Organizations (COCSSOs) in Gangtok, Sikkim on 10 -11 January, 2013. As per the recommendations of the National Statistical Commission, Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation organizes a Conference of Central and States Statistical Organizations (COCSSOs) every year, which provides a platform for the Central and State Statisticians to exchange views and discuss common issues relating to statistical activities. This is a major forum for coordination between the Central and State Statistical agencies with the objective of putting in coordinated efforts for making available reliable and timely statistics to planners and policy makers, not only in Government but also in private corporate sector for objective decision making. The agenda items for the COCSSO are as under:

(a) Industrial Statistics (ASI/Business Register/State IIP)

(b) IT initiatives in statistics

(c) Urban Statistics

The COCSSO at Gangtok would be deliberating the aforesaid issues concerning strengthening the statistical system in the States and make appropriate recommendations which would provide the road map for the stakeholders throughout the year.

Besides above, during this conference the progress made in the action taken on the recommendations of the previous COCSSO would be reviewed. Review of “India Statistical Strengthening Project” (ISSP) and the “Recommendation of the 13th Finance Commission” would also be the part of the agenda for the 20th COCSSO.

The COCSSO is likely to be attended by all the Heads of Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DESs) from all States and UTs, Principal Secretaries from the States/UTs, Statistical Advisor from Central Ministries, DGs/Addl. DGs/DDGs of Central Statistical Office, National Sample Survey Office, Programme Implementation Wing of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and National Statistical Commission) and Special Invitees from Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, M/o Urban Development, 13th Finance Commission and IBM.
