METRO Cash & Carry enters the Capital
with its tenth wholesale centre in India
 
          Expands Indian footprint with first outlet in Delhi, opening on February 23, 2012
          Invests approximately Rs. 45 crores in the Delhi outlet, creating over 300 jobs locally

New Delhi, February 21, 2012 METRO Cash & Carry, the international leader in self-service wholesale, today announced its entry into the Delhi market with its first wholesale centre in East Delhi, near Karkarduma Court. METRO’s Delhi centre will be the company’s tenth outlet in the country.

Speaking at the press conference to mark the launch of the Delhi METRO wholesale centre, Mr. Rajeev Bakshi, Managing Director, METRO Cash & Carry India, said, “We look forward to starting our operations in this market, with the opening of our Delhi centre on February 23rd. The company has invested approximately Rs. 45 crores in this multi-level outlet, which is spread over 80,000 sq feet and offers a wide assortment of over 10,000 products at attractive wholesale prices, to meet the needs of its customers. METRO Cash & Carry brings a considerable depth and breadth of experience in the wholesale trade, both internationally and in India, with nearly a decade of its presence in the Indian markets. 
 
METRO Cash & Carry India’s drive towards customer-centricity also focuses on building deep and productive customer relationships. With the success of the METRO Super Trader Programme, a unique training and support programme for traders, the Company is committed to revitalising the traditional kirana and trader communities to help them remain current and competitive in a challenging economic environment.  This program helps traders improve their profitability by addressing crucial issues that impact their day-to-day business - such as planning and redesigning their assortment, managing stocks efficiently and becoming more customer-friendly.  Over 200 local Delhi kirana and small traders attended the first such training programme organized by METRO recently in Delhi.
 
Continuing its focus on building the local economy, METRO has already created 300 jobs (150 direct and 150 indirect) in the state with its first distribution centre in Delhi. The Delhi workforce has undergone in-depth and rigorous on-the-job training in the various operational aspects of the wholesale business at METRO wholesale centres across the country, and is set to serve the demands of the company’s discerning business clientele in the Capital.
