EC removes three officials from poll duties in UP

 Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission has removed from poll duties three officials, the Returning Officer of Kadipur constituency in Sultanpur district and two deputy superintendents of police one each in Jyotiba Phule Nagar and Moradabad districts.

AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that the commission has directed that the officials should not be given posting in poll related posts. New officials have been appointed in these posts with immediate effect.

Scrutiny for the nomination papers filed for phase five election will be taking place tomorrow. 1202 nominations have been filed in 49 assembly seats spread over 13 districts from five divisions including Agra, Aligarh, Kanpur, Jhansi and Chitrakoot Dham. Candidates can withdraw their nominations till February 8. Polling in this phase would be held on February 23.

For phase four assembly elections 966 candidates are left in the fray for the 56 seats spread over 11 districts from five divisions including Lucknow, Faizabad, Kanpur, Chitrakoot Dham and Allahabad. 74 candidates have withdrawn their nominations and 47 were rejected in scrutiny. Polling would be held on February 19 for this phase.

A total of 89 nominations are filed for phase six elections. February 9 is the last date for filing of nominations and polling would be held on February 28. Nomination process begins tomorrow for the last phase of polling in 60 constituencies spread over 10 districts from 3 divisions of Moradabad, Bareilly and Lucknow.

Electioneering for first three phases of elections has reached its peak. Top leaders of both the Congress and BJP have been addressing election rallies in different parts of the state.

Addressed election rallies in Faizabad and Deoria districts, Senior BJP leader L K Advani said his party was committed to good governance. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed public meetings at Varanasi and Siddharth Nagar districts. He reiterated that his party would not go for any post-poll alliance with any political party in the state whether it wins or loses.

Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party Chief Mayawati addressed election rallies at Basti and Maharajganj districts. She criticised the Congress for trying to defame the state government on development issue.
