US might lift sanctions on Cuba - Obama

President Barack Obama has announced that he is considering putting an end to more than a half-century-old embargo imposed on Cuba after the Caribbean country went communist under Fidel Castro. “When Castro came to power I was just born, so the notion that the same policies that we put in place in 1961 would somehow still be as effective as they are today in the age of the Internet, Google and world travel doesn't make sense,” Obama said. During the UN General Assembly voting in October on the US sanctions against Cuba record 188 UN member states condemned the embargo, with only Israel supporting the US. Cuba has estimated its losses during the embargo at more than $1.1 trillion.
