5.5 earthquake strikes Japan, no tsunami warning

No immediate casualties have been reported after a 5.5 magnitude earthquake shook eastern Japan, including Tokyo, on Sunday morning, national public broadcasting organization (NHK) reported. A tsunami warning was not issued as the quake hit around 25 miles northeast of Tokyo, according to the US Geological Survey. Services on board bullet trains connecting Tokyo with northern Japan were briefly halted. In addition, no reports of irregularities were mentioned at the Tokai Daini nuclear facility, Japan's first nuclear power plant located 90 miles from the capital, NHK said. NHK warned of the possibility of water, gas, and power outages due to the quake.
