Obama chooses new Homeland Security chief

US President Barack Obama chose Jeh Johnson, the new Secretary of Homeland Security.

Obama made the announcement in the White House on Friday, saying Johnson has deep understanding of the threats and challenges facing the United States.

Obama said the US government has to keep adapting to changing threats.

Johnson will take over from Janet Napolitano who stepped down last month.

Napolitano served as Secretary of Homeland Security for more than 4 years.

Johnson was former legal advisor for the Defense Department from 2009 until last year. He strongly supported Obama's re-election bid.

Johnson will face a Senate committee hearing before getting approval in Congress. Media agencies
