El Instituto Cervantes de Nueva Delhi y la Embajada de Argentina en India, en colaboración con Oxford Bookstore, Treshold Gallery and Kaivalya Plays, tienen el placer de invitarles al programa monográfico dedicado a la obra de:
Jorge Luis Borges
con motivo del 30 aniversario de su muerte, y que tendrá lugar del 22 al 28 de agosto, de acuerdo al siguiente programa.

Tribute to Jorge Luis Borges
from 22nd to 28th August, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the passing of Jorge Luis Borges, according to the following programme:
- Monday 22nd, at 7:00 p.m., opening to the exhibition "The Aleph and other stories" by Achia Anzi, at the Exhibition Gallery.
- Wenesday 24th, at 7:00 p.m, dramatised reading of "The Aleph" by Kaivalya Plays, at the Library. (In English)
- Thursday 25th, at 6:30 p.m., dramatised readings of "The other" , "The book of sand" and "Blue tigers" by Kaivalya Plays, at Oxford Bookstore. (In English)
- Saturday 27th, from 11:30 a.m, seminar on Borges' works and thinking, at the Conference Room. (In Spanish with simultaneoud English translation)
-Saturday 27th, at 5:00 p.m., poetry and music recital on Borges poems, at the Conference Room.
- Sunday 28th, at 4:30 p.m., film screening "Incasion", at the Auditorium (In Spanish with English subtitles)

Instalación artística: "El Aleph y otras historias" por Achia AnziSobre la instalación: El artista Achia Anzi ha creado una instalación artística, a partir del relato de Jorge Luis Borges titulado El Aleph. Este relato, convertido en auténtico objeto de culto en el mundo de la literatura, presenta numerosas posibles interpretaciones; entre ellas la que plantea una lectura desde el existencialismo, basada en la idea de la incapacidad del ser humano de enfrentarse a la eternidad. Esta idea está presente en muchos de los cuentos borgianos y en su lectura y manejo de autores preexistencialistas como Søren Kierkegaard, Franz Kafka, y Arthur Schopenhauer.
- Fechas: Del 22 de agosto hasta el 2 de octubre, 2016
- Horario: martes a viernes de 6:30 p.m a 8:00 p.m.

Art Installation: "The Aleph and other stories" by Achia AnziAbout the art installation: The artist Achia Anzi has created an artistic installation inspired from the short story "The Aleph" by Jorge Luis Borges. This tale, long since evolved into a cult object in the literary world, presents multiple possible interpretations, among which is included a reading into existentialism, based on the idea of man's inability to to face eternity. This idea is present in many of the Borges stories and in his study and understanding of pre-existentialist authors like Søren Kierkegaard, Franz Kafka, and Arthur Schopenhauer.
- Dates: From the 22nd of August until the 2nd of October, 2016
- Timings: Tuesday to Friday from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Lectura dramatizada: "El Aleph" de Jorge Luis Borges, dirigido por Varoon P. AnandSinopsis: Borges es el protagonista de esta historia, que parte de la muerte de Beatriz Viterbo. Durante muchos años visita al primo de Beatriz, Carlos Argentino, coincidiendo con el cumpleaños de esta. Durante estas visitas, Carlos Argentino le va haciendo confidencias y acaba por leerle unos espantosos poemas a los que después de escritos trata de dar un significado.A finales de Octubre recibe su llamada para algo totalmente distinto a lo que esperaba, le comunica que van a demoler su casa y que no puede consentirlo, ya que para él, es imprescindible porque en su sótano está el Aleph, que es un de los puntos del espacio donde están todos los puntos. Borges acude a la casa pensando que Argentino está loco pero aún así entra en el sótano y al quedarse sólo en la oscuridad también ve el Aleph, observa al mismo tiempo el mar, Londres, racimos, nieve, tabaco, vapor de agua, desiertos, etc. ve en resumen todo el universo. Este cuento de Borges se presentara con la participación del grupo de teatro Kaivalya Plays. (+)

Anyone who gazes into it can see everything in the universe from every angle simultaneously, without distortion, overlapping or confusion. At the beginning of the story, he is mourning the recent death of a woman whom he loved, named Beatriz Viterbo, and resolves to stop by the house of her family to pay his respects. Over time, he comes to know her first cousin, Carlos Argentino Daneri, a mediocre poet with a vastly exaggerated view of his own talent, the cellar contains an Aleph which he is using to write an epic poem describing the entire planet. The theater group Kaivalya Plays will bring to life this classic story through a unique presentation. (+)

Lectura dramatizada: "El otro; El libro de arena; Tigres azules" por Jorge Luis Borges, dirigido por Varoon P. Anand
Sinopsis: Tres cuento clásicos de Borges conectados a imágenes de la India relatan historias fantásticas y sobrenaturales se presentaran a cargo del group de teatro Kaivalya Plays de forma única. : En "El otro", Borges, ya anciano, relata el encuentro acaecido con un Borges joven en la ciudad de Cambridge. El narrador de "El libro de arena" recibe de manos de un extraño vendedor el libro, de peso sorprendente y que por título lleva escrito en el lomo: Holy Writ. El vendedor le explica el nombre con que él mismo lo adquirió de manos de un mendigo: "ni el libro ni la arena tienen principio ni fin". Borges intenta encontrar la primera página, pero es imposible. En "Tigres azules" un hombre ha admirado toda su vida al tigre. Recibe la información de que se han avistado tigres azules cerca de una aldea de la India y parte hacia allá con el propósito de contemplarlos con sus propios ojos. (+)

AnandSynopsis: Three classic tales of Borges connected to images of India share fantastic and supernatural plotlines presented by the theater group Kaivalya Plays. "The other" is a short story in which the narrator, Borges, encounters a younger version of himself. In "The book of sand", an unnamed narrator is visited by a tall Scots Bible-seller, who presents him with a very old cloth-bound book that he bought in India from an Untouchable. It is emblazoned with the title "Holy Writ", below which title is emblazoned "Bombay", but is said to be called "The Book of Sand" because "neither the book nor the sand has any beginning or end". Blue Tigers combines two of Borges's favourite subjects - tigers and the metaphysical world. The action is set in North India (which bears more than a passing resemblance to Kipling's India). Early in 1904, the narrator (a university professor in Lahore) receives news that a new variety of tiger, a blue tiger, has been discovered in a village some miles distant from the Ganga. When he gets there, a series of events take place that must rank among Borges's finest moments as a fantasist. (+)

Seminario: "La obra y pensamiento de Jorge Luis Borges"
En este seminario el público asistente podrá acercarse a la obra y pensamiento de Jorge Luis Borges. Su obra (integrada por ensayos breves, cuentos y poemas), fundamental en la literatura y el pensamiento universales, además de objeto de minuciosos análisis y múltiples interpretaciones, trasciende cualquier clasificación y excluye todo tipo de dogmatismo. Borges es considerado uno de los eruditos más reconocidos del siglo XX. Ontologías fantásticas, genealogías sincrónicas, gramáticas utópicas, geografías novelescas, múltiples historias universales, bestiarios lógicos, éticas narrativas, matemáticas imaginarias, dramas teológicos, invenciones geométricas y recuerdos inventados son parte del inmenso paisaje que las obras de Borges ofrecen tanto a los estudiosos como al lector casual. Y sobre todas las cosas, la filosofía, concebida como perplejidad, el pensamiento como conjetura, y la poesía, la forma suprema de la racionalidad. Siendo un literato puro pero, paradójicamente, preferido por los semióticos, matemáticos, filólogos, filósofos y mitólogos, Borges ofrece -a través de la perfección de su lenguaje, de sus conocimientos, del universalismo de sus ideas, de la originalidad de sus ficciones y de la belleza de su poesía- una obra que hace honor a la lengua española y la mente universal. Seminar: "Jorge Luis Borges: works and thinking"Synopsis: In this seminar the audience can approach the work and thought of Jorge Luis Borges. His work (composed of short essays, stories and poems), fundamental in universal literature and thought, as well as a treasure of careful analysis and multiple interpretations, transcends any classification and excludes all dogmatism. Borges is considered one of the most renowned scholars of the twentieth century. Fantastic ontologies, synchronic genealogies, utopian grammars, fictional geographies, multiple universal histories, logical bestiaries, narrative ethics, imaginary mathematics, theological dramas, geometric inventions and invented memories are part of the vast landscape that works of Borges offer both scholars and the casual reader. And above all things, philosophy, conceived as perplexity, thought as conjecture, and poetry, the highest form of rationality. Being a pure writer but, paradoxically, preferred by semioticians, mathematicians, philologists, philosophers and mythologists, Borges offers -through the perfection of their language, their knowledge, their ideas of universalism, the originality of his fictions and the beauty of his poetry a work that honors the Spanish language and the universal mind. Recital poético - musical: "Borges y Guastavino"
Sobre el programa: En este recital se podrán escuchar traducciones al hindi, bengalí, urdu y marathi de poemas de Borges como "Benarés", "Ajedrez", "El otro tigre" o "Límites, recitados por los poetas y traductores Subhro Bandopadhyay, Madhuvan Sharma, Akshay Kale, además de otros en español en grabaciones del propio Borges. Entre poemas podremos escuchar además canciones del compositor también argentino, Carlos Guastavino, quien además puso música al poema borgiano "Milonga de dos hermanos". (+)
Poetry and music recital: "Borges & Guastavino"About the program: In this poetry recital will be heard translations into Hindi, Bengali, Urdu and Marathi of poems by Borges as "Vanaras", "Chess", "The Other Tiger" or "Limits, recited by the poets and translators Subhro Bandopadhyay, Madhuvan Sharma, Akshay Kale, as well as recordings in Spanish by Borges himself. Among poems we will also listen songs by the Argentinian composer, Carlos Guastavino, who also put in music Borges' poem "Milonga of two brothers". (+)

Cine: "Invasión" de Hugo Santiago
Sinopsis: Un grupo de hombres comandados por un anciano intentan detener una invasión a la ciudad de Aquilea. Los invasores son hombres de gabardina que introducen una maquinaria para una invasión en masa, pero con el desarrollo del film se entiende que la invasión es absoluta e imposible de definir. La derrota de los defensores es evidente desde el principio, referenciando a la Guerra de Troya. Basado en guión de Jorge Luis Borges. (+)
