Queridos amigos:
Dedicamos nuestro próximo ciclo cinematográfico al director, productor y guionista español, Julio Médem.
Despues de dirigir varios cortos dio el golpe dentro del mundo cinematográfico en 1991 con el largometraje Vacas, por el cual ganó un premio Goya como mejor director. Sus siguientes producciones como La ardilla roja (1993) obtuvo el Premio de la Juventud en el Festival de Cannes y Tierra (1996) también fue nominada al Palme d’Or. El proyecto Lucía y el sexo (2001) con Paz Vega como protagonista, rodada entre Madrid y la isla de Formentera inauguró un sistema de rodaje en alta definición, el HDCAM, que jamás se había utilizado para un largometraje en Europa, y obtuvo un gran éxito en la taquilla española acompañado de un merecido reconocimiento a nivel internacional.

We dedicate our next film series to the awarded Spanish film director, producer and screenwriter, Julio Médem.
After directing several shorts he broke through in with the film Cows in 1991, which won the Goya award for best new director. His next film The Red Squirrel (1993) won the Youth Award at the Cannes Film Festival and Earth (1996) was also nominated for the Palme d'or. The project Sex and Lucía (2001) starring Paz Vega, filmed in Madrid and the island of Formentera, inaugurated a system of shooting in HD, the HDCAM, which had never been used for a feature film in Europe and was a great success at the Spanish box office as well as garnering significant international recognition.

Cine: "Vacas"Sinopsis: A lo largo de tres generaciones, dos familias de un pequeño valle guipuzcoano mantienen relaciones tortuosas, marcadas por la violencia y las pasiones. La historia comienza en Guipúzcoa, en 1875. En una trinchera carlista, durante la guerra, un aizkolari logra salvar la vida embadurnándose con sangre de uno de los muertos, y dejándose apilar con los cadáveres. La presencia de una vaca le produce una extraña sensación, que se volverá obsesiva. (+)

Cinema: "Cows" Synopsis: In Basque country, feuds, governments, and wars come and go, while cows placidly observe the strange behaviors of the humans who care for them. In 1875, during a massacre inspired by an out-of-control family feud, a farmer and his friend find themselves in a ditch together. One of them dies, and the other survives by playing possum using his friend's blood as a disguise. As the film flashes forward in time, the man is now a grandfather who amuses himself by painting the tranquil gaze of cows over and over again, while he observes that his son is having an affair with his dead friend's granddaughter. Finally, during the Civil War in 1936, violence again mars the life of the family, as the illegitimate son of the earlier affair attempts to make headway with his life. (+)

Cine: "Tierra" Sinopsis: Un hombre, Ángel, se considera a sí mismo mitad hombre, mitad ángel, medio vivo, medio muerto, y cree que su conciencia está regida por una voz que le habla desde el cosmos. Llega a una comarca con el encargo de fumigar, y acabar de ese modo con la plaga de cochinilla que imprime al vino sabor a tierra. Dos mujeres muy diferentes, una joven, descarada y soltera, y tímida y casada, la otra, despiertan sus instintos de forma que cada una responde a los dos aspectos de su compleja personalidad: la ardiente y la romántica. Cinema: "Earth" Synopsis: The story centres on a small rural town whose wine industry is being plagued by grubs in the soil. Ángel (played by Gómez), an exterminator recently released from mental hospital, arrives to deal with the pests and becomes involved with two of the local women. (+)

Cine: "La ardilla roja"
Sinopsis: Una noche de verano en San Sebastián, Jota, líder de un grupo musical, piensa en suicidarse. Pero, de repente, una moto choca contra la barandilla del malecón desde donde se va a tirar. Una chica ha tenido un accidente. Jota la lleva al hospital donde se hace pasar por su novio. Ella sufre amnesia y Jota inventa una vida juntos. (+)
TrailerCinema: "The Red Squirrel" Synops: Jota, a failed musician whose girlfriend has recently left him, is about to commit suidide by jumping off a bridge when a girl on a motorcycle, Sofía, crashes off it. Rushing to help her, he discovers she has lost her memory, even forgetting her name. After telling the paramedics and staff at the hospital that she is his girlfriend, he later tells her the same. He invents an entire identity for her, giving her the name Lisa, and a history of their relationship according to his own fantasies. (+)

Cine: "Lucía y el sexo" Sinopsis: Lucía es una joven que trabaja como camarera en el centro de Madrid. Tras la misteriosa desaparición de su novio Lorenzo, un escritor, decide marcharse a la tranquila isla de Formentera. La libertad que siente allí la lleva a enfrentarse a los aspectos más oscuros de su pasada relación, como si se tratara de una novela.
Cinema: "Sex and Lucía" Synopsis: Lucía is a young waitress in a restaurant in the centre of Madrid. After the loss of her long-time boyfriend, a writer, she seeks refuge on a quiet, secluded Mediterranean island. There, bathed in an atmosphere of fresh air and dazzling sun, Lucía begins to discover the dark corners of her past relationship, as if they were forbidden passages of a novel which the author now, from afar, allows her to read.
