Delhi is experiencing regular power cuts for over a week almost
everyday for 1-2 hours even as average load in Delhi is barely 2400 MW

March 9, 2016, Bengaluru: The Indian hockey team kick-started their month long preparations for the 2016-17 season at the Sports Authority Of India (SAI) centre here in Bengaluru. The team will undergo intensive practice sessions at the camp for the long season ahead and try to attain a considerable momentum before the all-important 2016 Olympics Games in August.
The fourth Coal India Hockey India League (HIL), which concluded recently saw the emergence of many talented prospects, both at the junior and senior levels, who have been included in the camp. A total of thirty-three probables are training at the camp organised as preparation for the Olympic Games, to be held in Rio de Janeiro from August 5 to 21.
Speaking to the media, the Indian men’s hockey team Chief Coach Roelant Oltmans said, “The preparations look good, we have a stretch of 20 to 25 odd games before the Olympics which will be very crucial for the team. The Coal India Hockey India League helped us tap some very talented young players, but for them to make it to the national team they have to be physically, mentally and technically adept. We as a team need to improve on few critical aspects and through this camp I hope to achieve the same with the players.”
The team led by Sardara Singh ended the last season on a high with a bronze at the Hockey World League Finals. This being the Olympics year, a lot will be expected from the team. Speaking to the media, the talismanic skipper said “The training camp is a great place for the boys to get back in groove and gear up for the season ahead. We have just got 4 to 5 months left for the Rio Olympics and each training camp and tournament is important. The coach is working really hard with the team and each of us is taking initiative towards working on our individual goals and turns ourselves into a cohesive unit”.

DSK Shivajians ‘B’ record a high; down Roopali S.C 6-0
Pune, 7th March, 2016: DSK Shivajians F.C ‘B’ stretched their winning streak to four-in-a-row downing Roopali S.C 6-0 in a PDFA First Division Super League encounter, at BEG, Khadki ground on Monday.
The encounter also logged twenty-five goals for DSK Shivajians ‘B’. The end-result meant that, the squad, comprising of players from the Liverpool FC International Academy, took their points tally to 12.
DSK Shivajians ‘B’ took nine minutes to open their account via Rohit Kumar, who added another in the second half.
Gagandeep Singh (17th minute) and Nikhil Mali (35th minute) gave DSK Shivajians ‘B’ a 3-0 advantage at the half-way stage. Nikhil’s goal was his seventh in the League.
Switching sides, Jordan Fernandes (53rd minute), Rohit (54th) and Jesse Ralte (62nd) completed the rout. Statistically, Jesse’s goal was the twenty-fifth.
This is the third time DSK Shivajians ‘B’ have scored half-a-dozen goals past their opponents in the League.

Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari has said that projects in the ports and shipping sector, worth an investment of Rs. 1,20,000 Crore will be showcased before potential investors at the Maritime India Summit to be held in Mumbai from 14-16 April, 2016. He was talking to news persons in New Delhi today on the occasion of Media Launch of Maritime India Summit, 2016. The Minister said that the focus of the Government is on creating more jobs in the maritime sector. He added that one crore jobs – 40 lakh direct and 60 lakh indirect -have been identified to be created in 27 port based industrial clusters, coastal shipping and inland waterways under Sagarmala project.
The Minister underlined that in order to improve manufacturing, there is need to increase exports. While expressing concern over high cost of logistics in India which is currently about 18%, the Minister said that by developing coastal shipping and inland waterways, the transportation cost can be substantially reduced which will reduce logistics cost and make our products more cost effective.
Shri Gadkari gave details of major initiatives taken by the Government to develop the maritime sector. He said new ports have been announced at Wadhavan, Enayam (near Colachel) and Sagar with investment of Rs. 20,157 crore. In addition 27 projects with investment of Rs. 12,696 crore, adding capacity of 116 MTPA have been awarded in 2015-16 which include JNPT road connectivity (Rs.2,787 Cr) , Paradip mechanisation of coal berths (Rs. 1633 Cr) , Mumbai 5th oil berth (Rs. 811 Cr) , Kandla container terminal (Rs. 263 Cr) , Kolkata FSRU (Rs. 3500 Cr) , Ennore capital dredging (Rs. 425 Cr), Paradip LPG Terminal (Rs. 690 Cr) , New Mangalore mechanization (Rs. 470 Cr) , Goa dredging (Rs. 194 Cr).
The Minister informed that 15 projects with investment of Rs. 6879 crore are to be awarded before 31st March 2016 which include Goa conversion of iron ore berths to multipurpose berths in Mormugao Port(Rs. 1100 Cr), Ennore oil terminal (Rs. 700 Cr), Ennore capital dredging (Rs. 600 Cr) , Haldia floating POL facility (Rs.460 Cr), Mumbai FSRU (Rs. 2740). He said 32 projects with investment of Rs. 4351 crore and capacity of 70 MTPA have been completed in 2015-16 while 46 projects with investment of Rs. 28,040 crore with capacity of 307 MTPA are under implementation.
Speaking on the occasion Secretary, Shipping Sh. Rajive Kumar gave details of the Summit which is scheduled in Mumbai. The media launch marks the beginning of a month long campaign to publicize the event nationally and internationally through print, electronic and outdoor media. The objective is to attract potential investment in the rapidly transforming maritime sector.
Prior to today’s media launch, the Ministry of Shipping had organized MIS 2016 roadshows in Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad to highlight the growth potential of the maritime sector. The official website of the Summit, www.maritimeinvest.in, was also launched at Mumbai on 17th February 2016 during the Make in India Week. The Minister has also held a meeting with the Ambassadors of all maritime nations, seeking their active participation in the summit and urging them to spread work about the event in their respective nations. The Republic of Korea is participating in MIS 2016 as a partner country.
This maiden flagship initiative of the Shipping Ministry aims to provide a unique platform for participants to explore potential business opportunities in the maritime sector. It will showcase exciting investment opportunities in the sector including Shipbuilding, Ship Repair and Ship Recycling, Port Modernization and New Port Development, Port-based Industrial Development, Port-based Smart Cities and Maritime Cluster Development, Hinterland Connectivity Projects and Multi-Modal Logistics Hubs, Inland Waterways and Coastal Shipping for Cargo and Passenger movement, Dredging, Lighthouse Tourism and Cruise Shipping and Renewable Energy Projects in Ports. An exhibition along with exclusive demo sessions will showcase the latest technology, products and services as well as help disseminate knowledge about the latest development in Maritime Sector. 30th Federation Cup 2016 begins
Heavyweights IOB men and defending champions ONGC men start out with victories; SECR women tip Telangana at the buzzer
Bambolim, 9th March 2016: The opening day of the 30th Federation Cup 2016 got underway at 9.00 am today morning at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium here in Bambolim, Goa. The day was filled with top quality basketball action as the best club teams of the country took to the court.
The tournament began with a thrilling contest between the Vijaya Bank men’s team based in Bengaluru, Karnataka and Bhiwani Club from Bhiwani, Haryana. Both teams featured international players playing alongside young, athletic sidekicks. For Vijaya Bank, backup international point guard Rajesh Uppar led the way with double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. International forward Aravind Arumugam provided the frontcourt presence with 14 points and 12 rebounds, including 6 offensive boards. The game was close for the first three quarters, but in the beginning of the fourth, Vijaya Bank pulled away, building a double-digit lead with five minutes left. Guard Anil Kumar contributed for Vijaya Bank with 17 points. But Bhiwani Club fought their way back into the contest, led by the play of international guard Narender Grewal (27 points). His backcourt mate and international point guard Joginder Singh had an off day shooting-wise connecting on only 5 of his 17 3-point attempts. With under a minute of play left and the scores tied at 70, Vijaya Bank’s Rajesh Uppar nailed a deep 2-pointer off a broken play to give his team a slim lead. Bhiwani could not connect on the next possession and Vijaya Bank held on to clinch 75-70 win.
The first women’s game was between Chhattisgarh and Goa, which turned out to be a completely one-side contest. Goa did not have the size or the offensive firepower to match Chhattisgarh. Chattisgarh’s 6’9’’ centre Poonam Chaturvedi had her way in the game scoring 53 points with ease. Chhattisgarh ended up blowing out Goa with a 109-21 victory.
In the afternoon, Indian Overseas Bank, Chennai had their first game against Kerala Police. The IOB team was similar to the one at the Senior Nationals earlier this year, with the addition of veteran forwards Vineeth Mathew, Mihir Pandey and Abhilek Paul along with guard S. Arvind. The backcourt of Pratham Singh and Prasanna Venkatesh along with forward Aravind Annadurai remained the core line-up of the team. The strong IOB side took this game quite easily against the undersized Kerala Police team, leading from start to finish. The big lead early in the game allowed IOB to rotate their players and get good production out of the bench. Forward Mihir Pandey top scored for IOB with 18 points, while guards Hareesh K. and Siva Balan had 14 points each in the 85-53 triumph. Jomon Jose put up 15 points for the Kerala Police in a losing effort.
Immediately after, the defending champions ONGC, Dehradun squared off against a young and athletic Ludhiana Basketball Academy (LBA) side. The game turned out to be closer than expected with LBA jumping to an early lead ending the first quarter up 19 to 16. Junior India player Arshpreet Bhullar was LBA’s go-to scorer, connecting on his long-range shots and finding success driving to the basket. ONGC, however, ensured that LBA did not run away with a big lead, remaining within 5 points of LBA for the first three quarters. The fourth quarter was a different story, as ONGC showcased their experience in closing out a game outscoring LBA 30 to 15 in the last period. India captain Vishesh Bhrighuvanshi (24 points) was his usual brilliant self, getting to the basket with ease and either scoring or creating for his team. Veteran guard Trideep Rai had a great shooting game connecting on tough shots from mid-range and outside the 3-point line. Rai scored a game-high 27 points as ONGC executed well down the stretch to close out on a 79-66 victory.
The second and final women’s game of Day 1 was between the South-east Central Railways (SECR) team based in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh and the Telangana women’s team. Telangana, who were the semifinalists in this year’s senior nationals, were comprised entirely of players from the South Central Railways based in Hyderabad. The SECR lineup featured a few players from the Indian Railways squad that won the senior nationals. It was a battle of evenly matched teams with both teams trading buckets to begin the game. After the first quarter, Telangana began to put some distance between them and SECR. P. Divya was aggressive throughout the game for Telangana on her way to a double-double of 14 points and 17 rebounds. Telangana’s M. Gayathri scored a team-high 16 points. Telangana held around a 5-point lead over SECR throughout the second and third quarters and were up 57 to 51 with five minutes left in the game. But Chhattisgarh’s stretch forward Seema Singh knocked down a couple of late 3-pointers to keep her team in the contest. Telangana regained the lead 60 to 59 with M. Gayathri hitting one out of two freethrows in the final minute. With one possession left to win the game, Chhattisgarh’s Bharti Netam found herself open on the 3-point line and she drained the buzzer-beating triple to seal the deal 62 to 59.

About the Federation Cup
The Shyama Prasad Mukherjee indoor stadium in the Goa University Campus is the venue for the 30th Federation Cup National Basketball Championship for Men and Women 2016. Matches will be played on a league cum knockout basis. There are nine men’s teams and eight women’s teams in the fray. Headlining the men’s teams will be defending champions ONGC, Uttarakhand and last year’s runners up Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), Chennai. Among women teams, Kerala, Chhattisgarh and Delhi will start off as hot contenders.
League matches will be played from 9th to 12th March, followed by the semifinals and finals on 13th and 14th respectively. In both the men’s and women’s sections, teams have been divided into two preliminary groups.The Federation Cup is held annually and is the most coveted tournament for basketball clubs/state teams throughout India.
Generally speaking, in the men’s section, the top 8 state teams from the previous year’s Senior National Championship send the Champion District/Unit/Club of the State Championship/Inter-district/Inter-Unit. In the women’s section, the top 8 state teams from the previous year’s Senior National Championship are eligible to participate, along with the Champion team of the Indian Railways Unit.
Another significance of the Federation Cup is that it serves as the qualifying tournament for the FIBA Asia Champions Cup for Men, which pits the top clubs in the continent against each other. The winning men’s team from the Federation Cup qualifies to the FIBA Asia Champions Cup.
Last year, the 29th Federation Cup National Basketball Championship for Men and Women was organized by Basketball Federation of India in association with Maharashtra State Basketball Association and Poona District Basketball Association, and was held at Shiv Chattrapathi Krida Sankul, Mhalunge, Balewadi, Pune, Maharashtra from 29th March to 2nd April 2015. ONGC, Uttarakhand and Southern Railway were crowned champions in the men’s and women’s divisions respectively.
About Basketball Federation of India
The Basketball Federation of India or BFI is the governing and controlling body of basketball in India, and is responsible for the development and promotion of the sport at all levels. BFI has been involved in conducting camps, clinics, events, and training sessions at its academies for the development of basketball. BFI came into being in 1935 and took complete control over Indian basketball in 1950. Prior to that time, the Indian Olympic Association handled the conduct of Indian basketball championships. Since 1950, the BFI has been conducting various such championships, from the grassroots to senior team participation in international tournaments. In addition, the BFI has been responsible for the establishment of strong sub-junior and junior level programs. The BFI has to its credit produced several international players of repute, among them 17 have been bestowed with the honour of Arjuna Awards. Earlier in June 2015, 19-year-old Satnam Singh Bhamara made history by becoming the first Indian national to be drafted by an NBA team, when he was selected by the Dallas Mavericks.
