Dabang Mumbai H.C stun Uttar Pradesh Wizards
6th February 2016; Lucknow: Major Dhyanchand Stadium, Lucknow today witnessed another loss for its home team Uttar Pradesh Wizards against Dabang Mumbai H.C. The visitors who won their second consecutive match after a series of losses defeated Uttar Pradesh Wizards 2-1 in the 19th match of the 4th Coal India Hockey India League.
Visitors, Dabang Mumbai H.C. fresh from their stunning win in their last game, started their campaign on an attacking note. Dabang Mumbai played with a lot of confidence and their attacking game soon yielded results through a stunning field goal from Johan Bjorkman in the 8th minute giving the visitors an early lead of 2-0 over Uttar Pradesh Wizards. Wizards who have so far lost all their home games, came back strongly after this early jolt with a series of well-planned attacks but David Harte made no mistakes in foiling all attempts from the hosts to score. Hosts, Uttar Pradesh Wizards kept pressing hard and were rewarded with a penalty corner in the 14th minute, which was duly converted by Argentine Gonzalo Peillat, helping Uttar Pradesh Wizard earn a much needed goal in the match. The Wizards now trailed Dabang Mumbai HC by a goal with the score board reading 1-2 in the visitors favour. The second quarter saw some spectacular moves from the forwards of both the teams but some extremely crucial saves from the goal keepers at both the ends ensure that the first half got over with the score board remaining unchanged at 1-2 in the favour of Dabang Mumbai HC.
The second half began with Dabang Mumbai HC pressing hard to capitalise on their lead, but some brilliant interceptions from the Wizards defensive line coupled with some outstanding saves from PR Sreejesh foiled all attempts from the visitors to score. In return today Dabang Mumbai HC showcased top class defence as some strong attacks from the hosts were successfully defended by the visitors. The rest of the match saw a lot of close chances but the goal keepers at both ends were in their top form denying either sides of a goal. This is the fourth consecutive loss for the Uttar Pradesh Wizards on their home turf.
With this win the Dabang Mumbai H.C. now have 14 points in their kitty from six matches, and are currently placed at the bottom of the points tally for the 4th Coal Indioa Hockey India League.
The Coal India Goal of the Match award of INR 50,000 was presented by Mr. J Bagchi, Chief Manager Finance, Coal India Limited to Johan Bjorkman from Dabang Mumbai H.C., while his team mate Affan Yousuf walked away with the Most Entertaining Player of the Match award. “Create your own experience and build your own path rather than following someone else’s.”- Pankaj Kapur at Director’s meets of 18th Bharat Rang Mahotsav
“Theatre is poor man’s weapon” – Jayant Pawar
New Delhi, 6th February 2016: The sixth day of Bharat Rang Mahotsav had a tremendous start with “Meet the Directors” interaction amongst the directors and the audience. The play productions that were presented yesterday were Rajrakto, Chitrapata, Dopehri and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Directors of these presentations were Debashish Dutta, Manjunath L.Badiger, Pankaj Kapur & Deepan Sivaraman.
Pankaj Kapur is an eminent actor of television serials, Bollywood and has been a veteran in theatre world. He has established a theatre society called “Theatron” in Mumbai. A graduate from National School of Drama himself, Pankaj Kapur has been associated with Bharat Rang Mahotsav.
Talking about his performance yesterday, Pankaj Kapur said, “My aim towards the production of Dopehri was to realise if I still can perform theatre on stage or not. Also, I wanted to know if my work has reached the audience and how they respond to it.”
It is noteworthy that on public demand Pankaj Kapur had to do an additional show ofDopehri.
Answering to a question why he chose a new style of direction in his production, Mr Kapur said,“ Whatever that is in the league, I prefer to do something dissimilar of it. “Dopehri” is not an ordinary production. It is a dramatic narration. So what if it doesn’t have the generally set aspects of theatre, that doesn’t declare it a non-theatrical production.”
Emphasising on the young theatre aspirants in the audience he mentioned, “ The method which has been going on since long time, if only that will be followed without any development or changes, then one day it will lead to the end of theatre. We need to understand why a certain performance has been done in a certain way rather than questioning why it hasn’t been done in the pre conceived settings of our mind.”
Director Deepak Sivaram mentioned, “Theatre is a hybrid form. It is not based on literature alone. It includes the importance of space, lighting, dance, music as well.”
The latest addition to Bharat Rang Mahotsav, “Emerging Trends” –a three day seminar begins from today with livewire energetic discussions on the emerging trends in field of Playwright. The speakers of session were well-known theatre playwrights -Asif Ali Haider Khan, Bratya Basu, Jayant Pawar and Manav Kaul.
The speakers presented their own experiences of discovering a playwright in themselves and the environmental factors that contributed in the writings. The importance of Indian theatre and playwrights and its globalisation was elaborately brought out in front of audiences. Playwright Bratya Basu stated, “The language of a playwright is always regional. It is always spoken in another language for films.”
Elaborating on the origin of playwrights and their globalisation, eminent Marathi Playwright Jayant Pawar mentioned, “Just like a tree, the roots of our playwriting are deep in our community and it needs to be strong, otherwise theatre may not survive.”
