Mumbai City FC had a productive final practice

Mumbai, 17th October 2014: Mumbai City FC had a productive final practice session at D.Y. Patil Stadium, Nerul, Navi Mumbai, today afternoon ahead of their Saturday’s Hero Indian Super League match against visiting team FC Pune City.
Coach Peter Reid and the former German International Manuel Friedrich addressed the Pre-match press conference after the training.
Mumbai City FC would look to get their Hero Indian Super League campaign back on track on their home turf when they take on FC Pune City in their second game of the inaugural edition at the D.Y. Patil Stadium on Saturday evening. Coach Peter Reid commented, “the take away from the match against Atletico de Kolkata was that Mumbai City FC team needs to pass the ball better and we expect a great improvement in the game tomorrow in that aspect. The pitch at D.Y. Patil Stadium looks great and the team is looking forward to play tomorrow’s game on grass in their home turf and emerge as winners. The team would be without their injured skipper Syed Rahim Nabi, who injured his ankle in the opening game. Freddie Ljungberg felt fine after today’s training and might play his part in tomorrow’s match after recovering enough from a niggle he suffered during practice. Hope the team goes out and plays good attacking football and make it an interesting game tomorrow.”

Germany’s Manuel Friedrich, the captain for tomorrow’s match commented, “I was one of the first players to join the team and come to India and am getting used to the conditions and the weather in India. I am excited to play the home match in the presence of home fans. First match was disappointing as we were not able to perform as a team and now hoping to change that and to make sure that we get the 3 points in tomorrow’s game. It is much better to play on grass than playing on artificial turf. We need to play the game and maintain our focus throughout the 90 minute.”

Modi govt stand on black money is a betrayal with voters

The Narendra Modi government’s attempt to block the disclosure of names of individuals who have stashed black money abroad is a betrayal with the people of India and first major breach of trust by this regime.
The BJP-led government’s stand is identical to its predecessor, the UPA government, and it is now clear that the Narendra Modi government has also buckled to the pressure of powerful people who have kept their illegal money in foreign banks.
What is shocking is that the BJP, which had brought an adjournment motion in Parliament in 2011 demanding the disclosure of names of those who have black money stashed in foreign bank accounts, is now giving the same defeated and rejected excuses to deny this information from being made public.
The Aam Aadmi Party reminds the BJP of the statement given by its then President Mr Rajnath Singh, during the Lok Sabha election campaign on April 21, in which he had stated :“ If our party forms the government at the Centre, it would bring back all the black money stashed in foreign banks within 150 days. “The money brought back would be spent on the welfare schemes.”
It is now very clear that the BJP has forgotten this promise, but worst still is the stand taken by the government’s top law officer, the Attorney General in the Supreme Court on Friday, in which he has sought an amendment in its July 4, 2011 judgment.
The Modi government’s excuse that the Double Tax Avoidance Agreements with different countries prevent disclosure of names is a rejected and an already defeated argument.
The Supreme Court had on July 4, 2011 made it clear :“It is disingenuous for the Union of India, under these circumstances, to repeatedly claim that it is unable to reveal the documents and names as sought by the Petitioners on the ground that the same is proscribed by the said (DTAA) agreement….It is for the Union of India, and the courts, in appropriate proceedings, to determine whether such information concerns matters that are covered by the double taxation agreement or not.”
The NDA government must reveal the real reasons for its sudden u-turn, which has made it stand in the same line as that of its predecessor, the UPA government.
The AAP will raise the issue in the forthcoming Winter session in Parliament and will keep asking the government the reason for its unjustified move, which is a direct compromise with the biggest source of corruption in the country. (ENDS)
