Obama visit Myanmar after Bangkok

US President Barack Obama arrived in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand on Sunday. It’s his first overseas trip since being re-elected earlier this month.Obama met with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in Bangkok on Sunday afternoon.After the meeting, Obama told reporters that as a Pacific Ocean nation the US continues put emphasis on the Asia-Pacific as the most important region where the country will strengthen its engagement.Obama welcomed Thailand’s commitment to join the talks toward a free trade deal under the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement.
Barack Obama is the first sitting US president to visit Myanmar. He arrived in Yangon on Monday, on the second leg of his Southeast Asian tour.US officials say during his visit, Obama will pledge financial assistance to support education and democratic reforms in Myanmar.
Obama to urge President Thein Sein and the opposition party leader Aung San Suu Kyi to continue with their efforts toward establishing a democratic system in the country.Obama is demonstrating his pivot to the Asia-Pacific region by making it his first overseas destination following his reelection earlier this month.
Obama is to scheduled to attend the East Asian summit. He will hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on the sidelines of that summit.
