KUALA LUMPUR, 22 October 2012 –  AirAsia is expanding further into China with the introduction of its latest direct flights from Kuala Lumpur – Kunming, which will be available for booking from tomorrow, 23 October until 27 October; complimenting its existing 23 routes to China as a Group.

The new route was launched by AirAsia Berhad’s Chief Executive Officer, Aireen Omar and its Commercial Director, Jasmine Lee at a press conference held today in Kuala Lumpur, announcing a promotional all-in-fare from as low as RM88 one way.

AirAsia’s 24th route into China will begin operations on 10th December 2012 with four (4) flights available weekly on every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. This new route will also be operated on AirAsia’s Airbus A320 with a capacity of 180 seats.

Aireen Omar, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia Berhad says, “The addition of the Kuala Lumpur – Kunming route enables us to further strengthen our route network into China as we now have a total of 24 routes from Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Clark operating flights into 13 cities in China, including Kunming. According to the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA), AirAsia is the largest foreign airline by capacity into China at the moment, and we will continue to work hard to maintain this.”

The promotional fare from RM88 one way is available online at www.airasia.com and the travel period would be from 10th December 2012 – 30th September 2013. Guests are also able to book their flights via AirAsia’s new and improved mobile apps as well which are available for download at Apple’s App Store for iPhone and iPad, Google’s Play Store for Android phones, or at mobile.airasia.com for WAP enabled phones.

Kathleen Tan, Group Head of Commercial, AirAsia comments, “AirAsia is very positive about our growth in China, and the addition of this new route from Kuala Lumpur – Kunming further strengthens the point. As the capital city of Yunnan, Kunming plays an important part in the development of that area and AirAsia is proud to be the more affordable bridge that connects the business community between Kunming and Malaysia. Kunming’s abundance of natural resources doesn’t only transform into great business opportunities, but also a great tourist attraction. Stunning views and a treasure trove of culture await travelers to Kunming, so we do hope that this will be another destination that our guests will explore and enjoy.”

The AirAsia Group has announced three other new routes recently from Bangkok to Wuhan and Xian (operated by Thai AirAsia), as well as from Kuala Lumpur to Nanning. These new routes have been receiving overwhelming response and AirAsia will be offering more promotional flights for the Kuala Lumpur – Nanning route with all-in-fares from as low as RM99 one way. Guests can book their flights to Nanning from 23 Oct – 27 Oct 2012 and travel from 11 Dec 2012 until 30 Sept 2013, and the fares are available online at www.airasia.com.

Apart from Nanning, other cities in China are on sale as well with starting all-in-fares from RM199 one way. Fly from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Macau and Shenzhen with these low fares, and from Bangkok to Guangzhou, Macau, Shenzhen, Wuhan and Xian too under this promotion which guests are able to book immediately until 28 October at AirAsia’s website. Guests can travel from 5 November 2012 – 31 January 2013. Low fares for AirAsia X destinations such as Beijing and Hangzhou are also available from RM349 one way throughout this promotion period.

Kunming has an average temperature of 15degrees Celcius throughout the year, making it one of the most comfortable destinations to visit, with snowfall during occasional winter. One of the most notable attractions in Kunming would be the Stone Forest or ‘Shilin’ where a set of limestone formation resembles stalagmites creating the illusion of a forest made of stone. Two parts of the Stone Forest site, Naigu Stone Forest and Suogeyi Village have been listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is classified as AAAAA-class tourist site in China.

Photography and nature enthusiasts will find Dongchuan Red Land a must-visit, as it is deemed as one of the most magnificent Redlands. The Yunnan highland plateau is covered with massive redland resulting in it being praised as a palette on earth. Another interesting visit would be Kunming’s Horticultural Expo Garden which showcases the theme of ‘Man and Nature, marching into the 21st Century’. Nature lovers would also love the Dian Lake, which has been given the nickname ‘Sparkling Pearl Embedded in a Highland’.

The Lijiang Ancient Town and Dali Old Town are two places that will definitely attract history buffs. Lijiang Ancient town has a history of over 800 years which dates back to the Song Dynasty and Dali Old Town has unique architecture and the different cultures of China’s minority tribes who live there. Also experience Tibetan heritage and view the gorgeous countryside in near isolation when you visit the area of Shangri-La, which is also known as Zhongdian. Shangri-La got its name from the author James Hilton’s novel ‘The Lost Horizon’, where the characters of his fiction novel lived for centuries in Shangri-La; as well as from the local Khampa Tibetans who claim that the word Shangri-La is derived from their word for paradise – ‘Shambala’.

Apart from the exciting sightseeing attractions, Kunming also offers a wide variety of local cuisine and shopping options. Kunming specialties such as the wax print, produced by minority tribes; Sani handbag, a specialty among the Sani ethnic group of Yunnan are available among other things. Great places to visit for shopping include the Luosiwan International Trade City at the Guangdu District, Jingxing Street Bird-Flower Market and Kunming Farmer’s Market.

Guests are encouraged to pre-book their check-in baggage allocation online along with their flight bookings as they are able to save up to 66% as compared to checking-in their bags over the airport counter.

Apart from that, guests are also able to pre-book their in-flight meals with a wide variety of hot meals available on board with an option to book up to two meals for each guest. Check-in baggage allocation, in-flight meals, Pick-A-Seat, travel insurance and more are all available online and guests are able to add or make changes to their booking very simply through ‘Manage My Booking’.

CAIT ALLEGES SCAM IN UNSUAL CONCESSION

CAIT ALLEGES   SCAM IN UNSUAL CONCESSION TO GLOBAL  RETAILERS IN FDI IN RETAIL
CAIT URGED PRESIDENT TO ORDER FOR A PROBE
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) today said that it believes that there has been some sort of a deal between the government and the multinationals that has resulted in major variations compared to the statement on FDI in Retail, laid by Union Commerce Minister Mr. Anand Sharma on 25th November, 2011 at the floor of the Parliament and the Notification issued by the Government on 20th September,2012. “What has caused these variations?” questioned Mr Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary General of the CAIT. “The government owes an explanation to the people of this country.”-The variations are major departures and sharply highlight how the government is acting against the interest of its people to favour the multinationals-added Mr. Khandelwal. Taking it as a serious matter, the CAIT has today sent a communication to President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee to order for an independent probe in to the circumstances as to what happened between the ten months that forced the Government to make such major variations.
CAIT National President Mr. B. C. Bhartia and Secretary General Mr. Praveen Khandelwal in a joint statement today said that in the policy announced in the Parliament, 30% procurement from small and medium industries was stated as mandatory, and the Minister had made repeated references to this in mass media to sell the policy. However, in the notification it has been added that 30% procurement shall be calculated on the total procurement of first five years by global retailers. “This is a huge variation and leaves the policy without any teeth, as it gives enormous room for non-conformity. How will any government keep track of this over five years and ensure this is done?” questioned Mr Bhartia.
Another major variation relates to the location of retail outlets. The policy stated in parliament said that foreign retailers can open only in cities having population of more than 10 lakhs as per census 2011. The notification has been changed to say that in states which do not have cities with population of more than 10 lakhs, the multinationals can open outlets in any city of their choice. “This makes a mockery of Parliament and exposes the falsehood of the government” said Mr Khandelwal.
The CAIT shall be writing to all political parties to raise the issue of breach of privilege in forthcoming winter session of the Parliament. These variations will facilitate the global retailers to spread their wings without any hurdles and enable them to monopolize the retail trade in the country. The policy is hugely detrimental to the interest of not only the small industries but will have adverse impact on Farmers, Traders, Hawkers, Labours, Small industries and other sections of retail trade.

THAWORN WINS HERO INDIAN OPEN WITH FINAL ROUND HEROICS; KAPUR BEST INDIAN AT FOURTH

Bengaluru, India, October 21: Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand pulled off a sensational win in the play-off and won his third Asian Tour title this season at the Hero Indian Open by defeating Richie Ramsay of Scotland on the first play-off hole on Sunday at the KGA, which was teeming with excellent gallery.

It was the fourth play-off at the Indian since 2000, when Jyoti Randhawa beat Sammy Daniels at Classic Golf resort Gurgaon and then in 2006 Randhawa beat SSP Chowrasia and Vijay Kumar in Delhi Golf Club and in 2009, C Muniyappa beat Lee Sung at DLF.

Shiv Kapur was the best Indian golfer as he shot a 66 for fourth place on 272.

Anirban Lahiri of India, a two-time Asian Tour winner, Arnond Vongvanij of Thailand and Jaakko Makitalo of Finland were a further two shots back in fifth place.

Kapur, who has four top-five finishes on the Asian Tour this season, was delighted to continue his solid form where he posted a flawless round highlighted by five birdies.

“I’m happy but not satisfied. I just wanted to go out there and shoot my heart out. This is my national open and Hero is my sponsor. Obviously I would have liked to win but fourth is not bad. My streak of top-five continues,” said Kapur.

Thaworn, who was playing one flight in front of Ramsay, birdied the last hole in regulation play when his seven iron approach shot landed about one feet from the hole as he closed with five-under-par 66 at the approximately US$1.25 million Asian Tour event.

Overnight leader Ramsay needed a par putt on the last to win but made a three-putt bogey for a 68 as the duo returned to the par four 18th hole at the Karnataka Golf Association course.

On a day filled with drama, Ramsay blasted his tee shot into a watery creek and was penalized. His third shot landed in the back of the green and he chipped to about 10 feet past the hole as he two-putted for double bogey.

Meanwhile Thaworn, who won the Hero Indian Open in 2005, made a two putt bogey for the win after hitting his second shot into the greenside bunker. He was stunned by his victory, which propelled him to the top of the Asian Tour Order of Merit.

“To be honest, I didn’t expect to win with the way I was driving the ball this week. It means a lot that I’ve won a second Hero Indian Open title and that I’m now leading the Asian Tour Order of Merit,” said Thaworn, who totalled 14-under-par 270 and won US$198,125.

Thaworn, who was two shots off the lead at the start of the day, struggled with his driver but rallied with acute iron play and a sharp short game in a round of six birdies against one bogey.

“I think I only found two fairways in regulation and I didn’t see where Richie was on the 18th hole until the crowd started shouting. It was a huge surprise to me but I’m glad I won,” he smiled.

Ramsay, who was playing on a sponsor’s invitation, tipped his to Thaworn but rued an unlucky break in the play-off as his remarkable third shot, which he hit over the trees, landed in a pitch mark just after the green.

“I stayed committed to every shot but Thaworn played good. It was mine to win and a very strange thing happened on the last because I’ve been excellent under pressure the whole week,” said Ramsay.

“I had a great third shot in the play-off which landed at the back of the green. If there was a good lie, I would have fancied knocking that in. I could have gotten a very easy up-and-down but it was lying in a bad pitch mark. Some days, things just don’t go your way,” he added.

Thai rising star Panuphol Pittayarat bogeyed the last hole to finish one shot from the play-off.

2012 – Average Domestic Tariff – Rs. 5.62 per unit (Rs.2560/455 Units)

Respected Sir,
It will shock you to discover as Head of Government and Leader of 120 crore people in Delhi power tariff had more than doubled in just a FY when there is hardly any increase in average coal price considering private coal mining cost is not even Rs.400 per tone when they mine top layers of coal seams.

I have already reported August30, 2012 ‘BRPL Conned GoDelhi, DERC and APTEL – Rs.1045 Crore + FRAUD 2009-10 (C)’

After President Brijender Singh was prematurely eased out who opposed tariff increase and fraud DERC has now started ‘Extorting Double Tariff’ from all 160 lakh residents of Delhi .

Please STOP this daylight robbery and order CBI – CAG investigation and Register Criminal Cases against Anil Ambani and Regulators.

I have also attached color copy of High Voltage supply by BRPL at 245V+ even at peak hours in spite objections – that too drive 20% extra consumption charged at double rate – high voltage also contributes to 40% increased billing.

Power cuts in spite of Rs.4000 cr Investment force consumers to install invertors and generators and BRPL claim Rs.30,000pm salary for employee but hire Unskilled Staff through contractors at Rs.4000 to Rs.6000 pm.

When Domestic Consumers ought to be charged for 350 units @2.6 net or Rs.910 they are charged Rs.2560 for 455 units.

Enclosed are Copies of Bills for 2011 and 2012 and color copies of High Voltage supply from 245.99V to 248.45V at 5:45PM to 6PM on 19-10-2012.

Another Tibetan burns to death in protest against China, Fourth self-immolation this month
Phayul: Another Tibetan has set himself on fire today in protest against China’s continued occupation of Tibet in Bora, Sangchu region of Amdo, eastern Tibet.
Lhamo Kyab, 27, father of two young daughters, today set himself on fire near the Bora Monastery at around 2 pm (local time) in Sangchu district. According to eyewitnesses, he succumbed to his burn injuries at the site of his protest.
According to Sonam, a Tibetan living in south India with close contacts in the region, Lhamo Kyab set himself on fire on a road near the Bora Monastery.
“Engulfed in flames, Lhamo Kyab raised slogans calling for the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet and then fell to the ground after walking a few steps,” Sonam told Phayul.
Following the self-immolation, a minor scuffle broke out at the site of the protest between Chinese security personnel and local Tibetans, who succeeded in carrying Lhamo Kyab’s charred body inside the Monastery’s main prayer hall.
“The monks began to offer prayers for the deceased, even as a large number of Tibetans started to arrive at the Monastery upon hearing about the protest,” the same source said.
As of latest information received, monks and local Tibetans have carried Lhamo Kyab’s body to his home.
He is survived by his wife Droji Kyi and two daughters Pema Tso and Drugmo Tso, both under 10 years of age.
The month of October has now witnessed four self-immolations in Tibet. Gudrub, 43, Sangya Gyatso, 27, and Tamdin Dorjee, 52, all passed away in their fiery protests.
On May 27 this year, Dorjee Tseten, a native of Bora, set himself on fire in front of the historic Jokhang Temple in Tibet’s capital Lhasa, along with his colleague at work, Dhargey.
On March 20 earlier this year, more than 100 monks from the Bora Monastery had marched towards the township-level government buildings carrying Tibetan flags and pictures of the Dalai Lama calling for freedom in Tibet and the return of the Dalai Lama.
The next day, Chinese security officers entered the Monastery at around 2 am (local time) and arrested 40 monks, prompting a gathering of a large number of monks calling for the immediate release of fellow monks.
The local security officials, fearing more protests, released all 40 monks a few hours later, but told the monks to make “personal statements” admitting that they have made a “mistake” which they will not repeat in future.
Bora monastery has faced heavy restrictions since the 2008 uprisings in Tibet. The restrictions were tightened after Losar, Tibetan New Year this year when monks in the monastery displayed a picture of the Dalai Lama.
The Chinese government, in the lead up to next month’s Party Congress, which will see its once in a decade top leadership change, has called for stricter measures to maintain stability and suppress dissenting voices.
56 Tibetans have set themselves on fire since 2009 in Tibet demanding freedom and the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama from exile.
