Sebastian Vettel won the Indian Grand Prix on Sunday and stretched his Formula One championship lead over Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, who was a battling second, to 13 points with three races remaining.

He has maintained his dominance in India after winning last year's inaugural race at  Buddh International Circuit from pole.

"A very special Grand Prix. I don't know what it is about this circuit but I really like the flow of it," said Vettel, who has now led every single lap for three successive races.

Open debate on FDI in Retail : CAIT

Instead of Rallies the Government should face open debate on FDI in Retail
CAIT called on Government and Corporates to join open debate

Taking a strong view of the proposed rallies by the Congress Party substituted by the Government, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) today said that instead of holding rallies, the Government should face an open debate on the controversial issue at any open platform may be at any media platform. " We throw an open invitation not only to Government but even the Industry Chambers like Ficci, Assocham and CII to accept the invitation and join any open debate at any open platform"-said Mr. B. C. Bhartia, CAIT National President and Mr. Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary General in a joint statement issued here today.

Both Mr. Bhartia and Mr. Khandelwal said that both sides may be allowed to accompany their respective experts. If Presidential Candidates in US can have open election debate why can't we have an open debate on this issue which has vital bearings on crores of people across the Country.

They also revealed that J&K Chief Minister Shri Omar Abdullah, Industrialist Raj Kumar Dhoot, Congress MPs Shri Keshava Rao and Shri J.P. Aggarwal were part of the Parliamentary Standing Committee which submitted its unanimous report on 8th June,2009 in the Parliament  recommonding a blanket ban on entry of global retailers and domestic corporate houses in retail trade of India. They questioned what has happened now that they are opposing their own recommondations.

CAIT leaders said that if the advantageous arguments advanced by the Government and corporate bodies, in favour of FDI in Retail are logical and sound, then Govt  and Industry bodies should not hesitate to accept the CAITs invitation of a debate.

Both Mr. Bhartia and Mr. Khandelwal also said that Notification issued by the Government on 20th September,2012 is altogether different from the papers laid by Union Commerce Minister Shri Anand Sharma in the Parliament on 25th November,2011. The Government has gone miles ahead to provide all possible extra ordinary benefits to global retailers at the cost of local farmers, traders, small industries, labourers, hawkers, transporters and other sectors of retail trade. It is a fit case for breach of privilege of the Parliament and CAIT will urge different political parties to bring a motion of breach of privilege against the Government in forthcoming session of the Parliament.

In a democratic country the Government is under an obligation to conduct credible study, research or survey at least on the policies which have direct linkage to livelihood of the citizen prior to its implementation. But in the instant case, the Government took a hasty decision and did not conduct any survey, study or research  is an arbitrary decision. The majority view of the responses it received in response to its discussion paper and even the unanimous report of the Parliamentary panel have been totally ignored.

The CAIT has called both Government and the Industry bodies to accept the invitation of an open debate. Let the Countrymen know whether FDI in Retail is advantageous or dis-advantageous to the Country.

Soya milk - the health answer as 68% of milk in India adulterated
New Delhi: Sunday 28 October 2012: Over 68 per cent of milk in India does not conform to the standards set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India as per the govt. in a statement to Supreme Court.
According to the FSSAI's 2011 survey, the most common adulterant was found to be the addition of water, and the main reason for deviation from the standards was addition of glucose and skimmed milk powder.  Addition of water will reduce the nutritional values and if contaminated can cause health hazards. It also found that in some samples, detergent was mixed.
A PIL alleged that synthetic and adulterated milk and milk products are prepared using urea, detergent, refined oil, caustic soda and white paint which, according to studies, are "very hazardous" to human life and can cause serious diseases like cancer.
These adulterants are hazardous and cause irreversible damage to the organs. As per ICMR detergents in milk causes food poisoning and gastrointestinal complications. Other synthetic compounds cause impairments, heart problems, cancer and even death. The immediate effect of drinking adulterated milk with urea, caustic soda and formalin is gastroenteritis but the long term effects are known to be far more serious.
The health answer is to shift to soya milk, said Padma Shri and  Dr B C Roy National Awardee Dr KK AggarwalPresident Heart Care Foundation of India. Dr Aggarwal said that the forthcoming MTNL Perfect Health Mela will focus on health benefits of shifting to soya. During festive season, especially Diwali as non adulterated milk is often used to prepare sweets it is impossible to get pure milk to drink. At least during these days it is safe to shift to soya milk.
Some facts about soya milk
1, Soy milk (also called soya milk, soymilk, soybean milk, or soy bean juice and sometimes referred to as soy drink/beverage) is a beverage made from soybeans.

3. Soy milk contains about the same proportion of protein as cow's milk: around 3.5%; also 2% fat, 2.9% carbohydrate, and 0.5% ash.
4. Soy milk can be made at home.
4. The coagulated protein from soy milk can be made into tofu, just as dairy milk can be made into cheese.
5. The American Academy of Paediatrics considers soy milk a suitable alternative for children who cannot tolerate human or cow's milk, or whose parents opt for a vegan diet.
6. It is associated with a reduction in low-density lipoprotein ("bad cholesterol") and triglycerides.
7. It is good for women undergoing menopause.
8. Soy affects bone mineral density.
9. Gout sufferers limit consumption of soy products.
10. It is good for the health of the thyroid gland.

New Delhi:    Delegation of 80 Indian lawyers led by Mr. Pravin H Parekh – President, Supreme Court Bar Association of India, were in Pakistan for 6 days to attend an International Conference on “Peace through Law”. The conference was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr. Iftikhar Muhammad, Chief Justice of Pakistan. The Hon’ble Chief Justice, Hon’ble judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Chief Justices and Judges of different High Courts in Pakistan and about 8000 members of Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan, participated in the conference.
2.              The main achievement from this visit was that the Hon’ble Interior/Home Minister accepted the request made by Mr. Parekh to give one year multiple visa and also that legal fraternity will be exempted from police registration. He said that for 65 years, the relations of the two countries have not improved. It is therefore, necessary to take a new route so as to solve the problems by negotiation i.e. give and take by both the countries.
3.              Mr. Parekh talked about the similarities between the judicial systems of India and Pakistan and said that both countries have a common cultural, same social and legal background and draw inspiration from the same source of jurisprudence. “Pakistan and India are among those two nations whose very existence was made possible primarily because of the visionary leadership of their founding fathers who were also distinguished jurists of their times,” he added. He observed that even today, the role of lawyers and jurists could not be underestimated in terms of providing a strong leadership in both the countries.
4.               Mr. Parekh, the President of Supreme Court Bar Association, India  stated that lawyers constitute the most active and knowledgeable segment of the society as they play a leading role in molding public opinion on important issues of public policy. “People of the two countries have now realized that they have fought enough and it is time to settle all disputes bilaterally by mutual understandings” he added. Mr. Parekh appreciated the movement of the members of the bars of the two countries. There is no problem which cannot be solved by mutual dialogue as Mr. Parekh pointed out that both the countries are spending huge amounts on arms and the army. He regretted that unfortunately, both India and Pakistan have not been able to maintain normal neighborly relations since their inception. He said that both the countries have nuclear power which is one more reason why we must solve our problem by negotiation. He pointed out that both the countries need funds for their welfare activities. There are starvation deaths in both countries; both the countries need resources for education, Medical Relief and for development for common citizens. He also said that there are countries who would be happy to see our two countries fighting with each other. Mr. Parekh narrated the story of a monkey doing justice to two cats and in the process, eating up everything. He said that there are many monkeys who are interested in eating up both our countries. However, he said there was no issue in the world which cannot be resolved through peaceful negotiation, and that the jurists could play their role in not only creating the environment for peaceful interaction between the two neighbors, but also ensuring that such interaction was translated into real time trust and harmony between the two countries. He added that it is very important that we sought out our problem ourselves so that no one can take undue and wrong advantages. We have wasted more than 65 years and now we should waste no more time.
5.              “Our law enforcement agencies are striving hard to fix the problem and the Courts are geared to handle cases swiftly and dispense justice in a transparent manner,” Mr. Parekh said.
6.                The SCBA, India President Mr. Parekh expressed his views that the governments of Pakistan and India should take immediate steps for release of prisoners. He said that the release of prisoners was necessary to prove that both countries did not want Human Rights violations. “It is futile to declare each other a terrorist country”.
7.              On 20th October, 2012, 6 working sessions took place in which the judges of the Supreme Court chaired and Senior Advocates of the Supreme Court of both the countries co – chaired to address the gathering. Later that day, a dinner was hosted by Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr. Shahbaz Shairf.
8.              Mr. Parekh in his speech requested Senator A. Rehman Malik, the Hon’ble Interior/ Home Minister that we should host a new visa regime. Members of the legal profession of the two countries must get visa easily. To begin with, members of the Supreme Court Bar Association who are recommended by the President of Supreme Court Bar Association of the respective country, may be granted one year multiple visa for entire country. Mr. Parekh also requested that the cities of Panja Sahib and Nankana Sahib should be declared as holy cities.
9.              The Governor of Punjab, Sardar Muhammad Latif Khosa organized a function followed by dinner at Raj Bhavan which was attended by more than 9000 advocates with Mr. Pravin H. Parekh and Mr. Muhammad Yaseen Azad, President, Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan on 19th October, 2012.
10.           On 21st October, 2012, lunch was hosted by Chief Justice of Lahore High Court Hon’ble Mr. Justice Umar Ata Bandial at Lahore and a function followed by dinner, was also organized by the Union Interior (Home) Minister Mr. Rehman Malik in Islamabad, where Mr. Pravin H. Parekh, President, Supreme Court Bar Association of India and Mr. Muhammad Yaseen Azad, President, Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan addressed the gathering.
11.           On 22nd Morning there was a function organized by District Court Bar Association of Rawalpindi. Addressing the District Court Members of District Court Bar Association of Rawalpindi Mr. Parekh pointed out that the District Court Lawyers lay the foundation of every case; they work maximum and they are paid least. High Court lawyers work less than District Court lawyers but they are paid more. The Supreme Court lawyers work the least and are paid the most. This system requires some changes. He also said that junior lawyers require to be encouraged by the Bench and the Bar Associations. Junior lawyers who have any contacts or who belong to a poor family do not get any work and get entangled in a vicious circle. They do not get any work because they have no experience and they have no experience because they don’t have any work. Mr. Parekh requested senior members of the Court to look after the junior members give them experience, work and reasonable remuneration. Lady lawyers also need special attention and care.
12.           Dealing with the speech of the President of the Rawalpindi High Court Bar association Mr. Parekh pointed out that there is no point making allegations and counter allegations. The Supreme Court Bar Associations of the two countries have decided to move forward to create proper atmosphere for settlement. Both the Bar Associations have been working towards its first by holding an International Seminar in Lahore in November, 2011. Thereafter 217 members of Pakistan Bar Association came India in the third week of March, 2012 and now 80 members of the Bar from India under the leadership of Mr. Pravin H. Parekh went to Pakistan from 19th to 25th October. This has been a positive step and the members of the Bar in both the countries have expressed their resolution to go ahead.
13.           Later in the day on 22nd October, 2012, the delegation visited the Supreme Court of Pakistan and attended the court function which was organized in the Auditorium of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Chief Justice of Pakistan Supreme Court, Pravin H Parekh – President Supreme Court Bar Association of India, Muhammad Yaseen Azad, President, Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan addressed the gathering. Thereafter, the Supreme Court of Pakistan hosted a lunch in honor of Indian Delegates at Islamabad. In the evening on the same day, dinner was hosted in honor of Indian Delegates by Mr. Arif Chaudhry, Legal Consultant, Ministry of Interior (Home) Pakistan.

15.           On 24th evening a dinner was hosted by the Punjab Government at Lahore in honor of the Indian Delegates.

With an investment Rs 450 crores, Amul dedicates India’s largest dairy to NCR
-  Shri Sharad Pawar inaugurated the Dudhmotisagar Dairy that has a capacity of 30 lac litres per day

Shri Sharad Pawar, Hon. Minister of Agriculture and Food Processing, Government of India inaugurated  Dudhmotisagar Dairy, India’s largest dairy with a capacity of 30 lac litre per day at Dharuhera, Haryana on 24th October 2012.  Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Hon. Chief Minister of Haryana was the Chief Guest at the function  presided over by Shri Vipul Chaudhary, Chairman, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation and Mehsana District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited. Over 3000 milk producers of Mehsana district, Gujarat attended the function.
The dairy plant has been set up by India’s largest dairy cooperative Mehsana District Cooperative Milk Producers Union for processing and packing Amul Milk, Dahi, Buttermilk and other fresh products for the consumers in the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi.

Speaking at the inauguration, Shri Vipul Chaudhary said, “We are confident that the new facility will further strengthen Amul’s stronghold in the domestic dairy market. It will be a major boost for the consumers in the fast growing milk market of NCR.”

Amul is currently marketing 24 lac litres of milk every day in the NCR Region. It is the market leader in the pouch milk market segment.  The current pouch milk market of NCR is approx 50 lac litres per day(llpd). The other players are Mother Dairy, Delhi (19 llpd), DMS (3 llpd), Vita (1.5 llpd) and private brands like Paras, Dairy Best etc (4 llpd).
The new Dudhmotisagar Dairy, Dharuhera will have a packing facility of 30 lac litres of pouch milk, 2.5 lac litres of buttermilk per day in addition to probiotic lassi, yoghurt and curd. The total investment of the plant is approx Rs 450 crores.

The new investment of Mehsana Union at Dharuhera is in addition to the current plant, Dudhmansagar dairy, with 10 lac litres per day capacity which is operational at Manesar, Haryana since 2005. It also manufactures icecreams and curd at the Manesar facility.

Mr Chaudhary added, “Amul’s own total packing capacity will touch 50 llpd by 2013. This will ensure supply of good quality pure milk to the citizens of NCR.”
NCR is world’s largest urban agglomeration by area (34,000 sq km) and 2nd largest by population. As per the National Capital Region Planning Board, the current total population of NCR is approx 500 lacs. At approx 60% urban NCR population, the milk market size of 90 lac litres per day. The NCR population is projected to grow at a very rapid rate and touch 6.5 crores by 2021. So, with 70% urbanization by 2021, the milk market size of NCR will grow to 140 lac litres per day at current rate of consumption.

It may be noted that NCR as a concept was first mooted 50 years back in 1962. The Delhi Milk Scheme was commissioned in 1959 and Mother Dairy’s Patparganj plant was put up in 1974. No new large investment in a dairy plant has been done in NCR for last two decades except Mehsana Union’s Manesar plant of 10 lac litres per day capacity in 2005.  Thus this new 30 lakh litres per day capacity at Dudhmotisagar Dairy will help meet the demands of the consumers in the fast growing milk market of NCR.

  • PM's Meeting with CMDs of major Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs)

The Prime Minister met the CMDs of twenty five major Maharatna and Navaratna CPSEs. These enterprises account for a large proportion of the India's market capitalization, organized sector employment and are a major contributor to India’s economic growth.

After hearing the views of the CMDs, the Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, The Finance Minister and the Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, the Prime Minister spoke about the importance of the Central Public Sector Enterprises to the processes of nation building. The Prime Minister noted that the Public Sector Enterprises were instruments for bringing India back into reckoning as one of the great economies of the world. The Prime Minister said:" We cannot be satisfied with the status quo. Our growth should be maintained at the level of 8 to 8.5 percent regardless of what happens in the world economy. We must learn to swim and swim fast enough whatever be the circumstances."

The PM spoke of the contributions of the CPSEs to our economy today. They contribute over 6% of our GDP and their profits are at a record levels of almost Rs 1,00,000 crore. They have helped in transforming hitherto backward regions into modern hubs of industry and prosperity. The Prime Minister told the gathering: "Even if the international demand is not there, domestic demand should drive the investment and our endeavours".

The need of the times, the PM emphasized, is to be ready for the challenges of the future. Today, CPSEsface competition from not just domestic private enterprise but also from global corporations. As one of the biggest emerging global economies, India is an important destination for all Multi-National Corporations and competition will intensify in future. The PM therefore strongly urged them to focus on increasing the efficiency of operations, aim for achieving world-class competencies. He spoke of the need to commit to innovations in technology, human resources and create a culture of optimism.

Drawing attention to the large cash surpluses of CPSEs, the PM asked the CPSEs to use that surplus for their own benefit and the benefit of the economy. They should use it for driving investment, growth and jobs. Investing such cash surplus would help in re-igniting the growth impulses that are present in the economy. The Prime Minister noted that the investment rate in the country had declined due to recent slowdown, which should be increased to 36% to 37% to achieve 8 percent growth.

The Prime Minister said that he had noted the need for improving coordination in expediting project clearances and for generating an appropriate long term vision. He asked the Minister of Heavy Industry & Public Enterprises and the Department of Public Enterprises to work with the Finance Ministry, Planning Commission and the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council towards addressing these issues. “We are a government determined to overcome difficulties in the spirit of national enterprise", the Prime Minister concluded.
