US may strike Iran to defend
US interest: Obama
US President Barack Obama says US policy is to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and he will not hesitate to strike Iran to defend United States and its interests.
Yet he warned against what he called loose talk of a war with Iran ahead of a crucial meeting with the visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Amid speculation that Israeli might move on its own to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities, Obama said too much talk of war could be counterproductive. Obama will host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for talks at the White House today.
In a key note address to a pro Israeli lobby, President Obama, pledged his strong support for Israel and said military action remained an option to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapon.
At the same time he argued for focusing on sanctions as the course of action with the most likely chance of success.
