Sikkim Govt to spend 20% of its budget on education

Sikkim government has decided to spend 20 per cent of its budget on education to make the state a hub of quality education.
State Chief Minister Pawan Chamling said, one model school will also be opened in each Gram Panchayat.
He was addressed a function to mark the 20th Foundation Day of his party SDF at Jorethang in South district last evening.
The celebrations were marred by a major fire engulfing the entire Pandal. The incident happened after Mr. Chamling finished his speech.
Though the Chief Minister escaped unhurt, 36 persons were injured in the fire and the consequent stampede. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
