Toyota 7th NCR Cup Amateur Golf Championship all set to tee off from tomorrow

5th March, Delhi: Delhi Golf Society announced Toyota 7th NCR Cup amateur golf championship which will be held from March 6th – 9th, 2012 at the Delhi Golf Club in Delhi.  Around 75 golfers from all across India along with foreign teams like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Korea and Portugal will tee off at the Par-72 golf course from tomorrow. The tournament will be inaugurated by Sanjay Kothari, Special Secretary, Government of India, and Ministry of Tourism.

While the tournament will be played in stroke play format, players will be playing as individuals as well as teams from various countries, states, golf courses and organizations. The team championship winner will be declared after the first two days of play. The cut will also be applied after the first two rounds and the field will be reduced to 45 players who will vie for the title on Thursday and Friday over 36 holes. The winner and runner up of the NCR Cup will be sent to play in one of the National Amateur Championships of European region.

Udayan Mane from Bangalore, Chandigarh’s Angad Cheema, winner of All-India Amateur Championship 2011, Kapurthala’s Ashbeer Singh Saini and Delhi’s Honey Baisoya will carry the local challenge while Thangaraja Nadaraja and Sisira Kumara George Patrick from Sri Lanka, Joao Ramos and Pierre Rolland from Portugal, Bikash Bogati and Dinesh Prajapati from Nepal, Rio from Korea and Syed Shoaib Bokhari along with Abbas Ali Khan from Pakistan will also feature in the event.

Angad Cheema said, “I am quite excited to play the NCR Cup as this is one of the most prestigious amateur tournaments and is being played at Delhi Golf Club. Since no other amateur tournament is organized at this historic golf course for many years, the NCR Cup gives the leading amateurs of the country to showcase their talent every year. It’s all about keeping it straight of the tee as it’s a very long golf course and I will just try and keep it in play and repeat my performance of All-India Amateur Championship.”

Hardip Singh Kingra, General Secretary, Delhi Golf Society, said, “After seeing the success of the NCR Cup in last six years, Delhi Golf Society will hold Delhi state inter college Championship with sanction from association of Indian Universities (AIU) and Delhi inter school championship with sanction from school games federation of India (SGFI) from this year as these bodies have the legal rights to officially hold these championships.”

About NCR Cup
NCR Cup is a National Level Amateur Golf Championship held every year in Delhi Golf Club. This year, the 7th edition of the tournament is being held from 6th March to 9th March. It is one of the finest and best managed amateur golf tournaments in India where top Indian amateur golfer and some foreign teams participate. This year, the response is so overwhelming that the Delhi Golf Society had to put a cap and accepted entries of players with a handicap of five and under. In all 135 entries were received but as per the Delhi Golf Club only 75 players are shortlisted to play.

About Delhi Golf Society
Delhi Golf Society is a registered body affiliated to Indian Golf Union as a State Golf Association. It has individual, clubs and some association as members. It works for the promotion of Golf in general with more emphasis in the NCR Territory. It holds its NCR Cup and Delhi State championship regularly every year. It also arranges intellectual discussions and forums amongst golf players, managers, sponsors and media. Recently, it organised a Seminar on “Golf in Olympics- Challenges and Opportunities” in collaboration with FICCI.
