US AIRSTRIKES ON SYRIA
US President Donald Trump has ordered a major military strike on Syria in retaliation for a suspected chemical attack on rebel-held territory. It’s the first US attack on Syrian government forces since the civil war started in 2011.
Trump made a statement about the strikes:
“On Tuesday Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad launched a horrible chemical weapons attack on innocent civilians, using a deadly nerve agent. Assad choked out the lives of helpless men, women and children. It was a slow and brutal death for so many, even beautiful babies were cruelly murdered in this very barbaric attack. No child of God should ever suffer such horror. Tonight I ordered a targeted military strike on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched. It is in this vital national security interests of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons.” Media reports
Many big powerful countries have expressed their reactions on US missile strike on a military base in Syria.
Britain, Australia, Turkey, Israel and Saudi Arabia gave their support to the US . Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said the strike is a proportionate and calibrated response to the use of chemical weapons.
UK Government spokesman said, British Government fully supports the US action. Saudi Arabia said, it fully backs a US air strike on a Syrian government airbase in retaliation for a suspected chemical weapons attack on a rebel-held town. Turkey said US missile strikes against the Syrian air base is a positive action.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country fully supports President Trump’s decision.
Russia says, US missile strikes on a military airfield in Syria violates international law and represents an act of aggression against a sovereign state under a far-fetched pretext. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov today said that Washington inflicts considerable damage to US-Russia relations.
Iran denounced the strike and said such unilateral strikes and other measures will strengthen terrorists in Syria and will complicate the situation in the region. Indonesia has said Military actions, undertaken without prior authorisation of the U.N. Security Council, are not in line with international legal principles in the peaceful settlement of disputes, as stipulated in the U.N. Charter. Greece said it is strongly against any military intervention in Syria as it could hamper peace efforts.
US has carried out a missile attack against targets in Syria in response to a suspected chemical weapons attack on a rebel-held town in Idlib province. A Pentagon official said, US warships launched between 50 to 60 Tomahawk cruise missiles at Shayrat Airfiled where the warplanes that carried out the chemical attacks were based.
Press Secretary Captain Jeff Davis said that the strike was intended to deter the regime from using chemical weapons again. He said, the Russian military, which is supporting the Syrian government, had been informed ahead of the US attack.

Syria's opposition National Coalition hailed the strike and urges Washington to neutralise Assad's ability to carry out air raids.
The Governor of Homs province,where the Shayrat base is located said that the strike has caused several deaths. He said the forces present at the air base were providing important support in the battle against the Islamic State group in the Palmyra region.
Meanwhile, Russia says, it will demand urgent UN Security Council meeting in connection with US missile strike in Syria. The Chairman of the Russian Federation Council's Committee on Defense and Security,Victor Ozerov stressed that military cooperation between Russia and the United States could be at risk because of the strike as US had failed to communicate properly on the matter.
The suspected chemical attack left at least 86 people dead including women and children in the rebel-held town of Khan Sheikhun in northwestern Syria. The Syrian army denied that it had used chemical weapons against Khan Sheikhun.
The Syrian army says six people were killed in the US strike on the military airfield. The Governor of the Syrian city of Homs,Talal Barazi said several people injured in a village near teh Shayarat airbase. UK based monitoring group, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has also confirmed the casualty and said the strike almost completely destroyed the facility.
An Airfield staffer said, the military base has been destroyed and its aircraft damaged in US missile strikes. Syrian television also reports that flames continue to engulf the airfield following the attack.
Meanwhile, Russia says, it has suspended its memorandum of understanding on air safety over Syria with the United States following the deadly US missile attack on the Sha'irat airfield. Russian Foreign Ministry today said in a statement that the memorandum on the prevention of incidents and ensuring air safety during operations in Syria reached with the US is suspended.
Pentagon says 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles were launched from the destroyers USS Porter and USS Ross in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
The missiles reportedly hit the Shayrat Airfield in Homs at 4:40 AM, local time, on Friday. They targeted Syrian military aircraft, petroleum and logistical storage, ammunition supply bunkers, air defense systems, and radars.
US intelligence officials believe Syrian aircraft from Shayrat carried out the chemical attack on Tuesday.
