ANURA ROHANA’S 67 CATAPULTS HIM TO JOINT FIRST, HARENDRA GUPTA HANGS IN FOR A SHARE OF THE LEAD

Kochi, April 14, 2017: While overnight leader Harendra Gupta of Chandigarh hung on to the lead with a quiet 72 on day three, he was joined at the top by Sri Lankan Anura Rohana who carded a splendid 67 that catapulted him four places from his overnight tied fifth position. The duo was two shots clear of the rest at nine-under-207.

The chasing pack featured Delhi’s Honey Baisoya, who followed up his second round 67 with an equally impressive 68 on Friday, and Mukesh Kumar of Mhow, the 2015 champion, who returned a 71 in round three. Baisoya and Mukesh shared third place at seven-under-209.

The seasoned Anura Rohana (70-70-67), lying tied fifth at the halfway stage, bridged the gap of five shots between himself and the leader with his awesome five-under-67 in the third round. The 43-year-old from Colombo, keen to end his two and a half year title drought, made some long birdie conversions on the fifth and sixth which were neutralized by bogeys on the seventh and ninth.

However, his round took flight on the back-nine. Anura first birdied the 10th from 10 feet and then followed that up with an incredible run of birdies on the last four holes. He struck it well on the 15th and 16th, to pick up strokes on both the par-5s and move to three-under for the day. The three-time winner on the PGTI finally ended the day in a blaze of glory with two more birdie conversions from eight to 10 feet on the 17th and 18th.

Rohana said, “The low score came just at the right time for me. I’ve been feeling good about my putting since the event in Chittagong earlier this month where I finished in the top-5. Today I converted five birdie putts from a range of eight to 15 feet. My approach shots were also quite accurate. I kept landing them close to set up birdie putts.

“I hold the record for the lowest score at this course, an eight-under-64, which I shot during the 2015 PGTI Cochin Masters. I’ve had that at the back of my mind all week. I know I can shoot low scores here and that has been encouraging me to play well.

“I kept missing birdie putts from within 10 feet from the 11th to the 14th but I didn’t let that affect me as I came back well with a fantastic run of four successive birdies at the end. It’s now going to be a fascinating contest with Harendra who came from behind to beat me in Pune exactly one year back.”

Harendra Gupta (70-65-72) was looking good when he moved to two-under for the day after a brilliant bunker shot on the sixth that left him a tap-in birdie. But a wrong club selection that resulted in a bogey on the seventh changed the course of his round. Gupta, the overnight leader by three, could not conjure any more birdies from there on. In fact, he went on to drop another shot on the 14th.

Harendra said, “My driving and tee shots were not as good compared to the second round. I found the hazard a couple of times today. I feel the bogey on the seventh took away the momentum from me as I kept thinking about it through the round.

“However, I’m still very much in contention and a score of four to five-under in the final round would give me a good chance of winning.”

Three-time winner Honey Baisoya produced a flawless 68 to move up from overnight 11th to tied third. He was joined by veteran Mukesh Kumar in joint third. Mukesh had four birdies, a bogey and a double-bogey during his round of 71 on Friday.

Delhi-based Shivendra Singh Sisodia (73) was in fifth place at five-under-211.

Rookie golfer Tapendra Ghai of Gurgaon produced the day’s best score of five-under-66 to be placed tied ninth at two-under-214.

Defending champion Feroz Ali Mollah (73) of Kolkata closed round three in tied 23rd place at one-over-217.

GOVERNMENT APPROVES INCREASE OIL PALM AREA AND PRODUCTION IN INDIA

Ruchi Soya’s views on Union Cabinet approving measures to increase Oil Palm area and Production in India
·        “Visionary move puts India on the path to self-reliance in Edible Oils and ensuring Food Security.” – Dinesh Shahra
·        “To encourage Farmers to take up Oil Palm Cultivation on a larger scale.” – Dinesh Shahra

New Delhi, April 13, 2017: In light of the latest round of measures announced by the Government to promote and encourage oil palm cultivation, Mr. Dinesh Shahra, Managing Director, Ruchi Soya Industries Ltd., Indias largest agri-foods company, welcomed this historic and path-breaking initiative of the Government led by the Honble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji.

Commenting on the new policy, Mr. Dinesh Shahra, Managing Director, Ruchi Soya stated, “We applaud and welcome this visionary move by the Modi Government to put India on the path to self-reliance in Edible Oils and ensuring Food Security. These far-sighted steps will have benefits across the board that will unfold in the coming years. The Governments drive to make India a self-reliant agri producer and a zero net importer of oil is now on course. Ruchi Soya is leading the palm oil sector cultivation in the country and faces immense pressure from importers of cheap oil. We intrinsically believe in ‘Make in India” and this shot in the arm for Indian oil companies demonstrates the Governments belief and confidence in Indian agri-food companies. It is now for the Indian agri-companies to rise up to the occasion and boost oil palm cultivation on a war footing to fight the demand-supply gap that is leading to net imports. The move will also encourage farmers to take up oil palm cultivation on a larger scale.”

The multiple measures announced include relaxation of land ceiling limits, revision of norms of assistance in order to increase area under oil palm cultivation and production of palm oil, and are aimed at attracting corporate bodies to this sector to boost domestic output and cut import. The total production of edible oil in the country is about 9 million tonnes while domestic demand is around 25 million tonnes. The gap between demand and supply is being met through imports, which amounted to Rs 68,000 crore in 2015-16. Palm oil contributes 70 per cent of vegetable oil import and is one of the cheapest oil due to high yield per hectare.

The Union Cabinet also announced relaxation of land ceiling for oil palm cultivation under the National Mission on Oilseeds and Oil Palm (NMOOP). This will attract corporate investment in oil palm plantations as they will be able to access the NMOOP support even with plantations over 25 hectares.

The Cabinet also revised norms for assistance under Mini Mission-II of NMOOP. It has approved revision in the norms of assistance mainly for planting materials, maintenance cost, inter-cropping cost and bore-well to make oil palm plantations attractive.

With NMOOP presently implemented in 12 states across the country, there is immense potential to extend oil palm plantation to the other states. I can assure you that Ruchi Soya will be at the forefront of this drive and NMOOPs aims to bring an additional area of 1.25 lakh hectare under oil palm cultivation in the near future, added Dinesh Shahra.

BRAZIL JUDGE:CORRUPTION PROBE OF TEMER’S CABINET

A Supreme Court justice dealt President Michel Temer and Brazil’s political elite a heavy blow on Tuesday by ordering investigations into eight cabinet ministers and dozens of lawmakers allegedly linked to the country’s biggest corruption scandal.
The list of names under investigation released by Justice Edson Fachin read like a Who’s Who of Brazilian politics, tarnishing past statesmen and potential presidential candidates alike.
The list, whose contents had been subject to furious speculation and a number of leaks, became public when Fachin lifted the seal on plea bargain testimony from 77 employees of construction company Odebrecht, which has admitted paying millions of dollars in bribes.
In Sao Paulo, residents banged pots and pans in protest against political corruption, while in the capital Brasilia, deputies left a session in the lower house earlier in the day as news of the list began to break.
The investigation into eight ministers, or nearly a third of the president’s cabinet, poses a serious threat to Temer’s efforts to pass austerity reforms that he says are needed to regain investor confidence and lift the economy out of its worst recession on record.
Temer’s office declined to comment.
“More than having eight ministers on the list, the biggest problem for the government is seeing its whole political nucleus there,” said Danilo Gennari, partner with Brasilia-based consultancy Distrito Relações Governamentais, referring to the implication of key government allies.
Among that core is Temer’s chief of staff Eliseu Padilha, an experienced politician considered key in negotiations with Congress to pass the administration’s crucial pension reform.
Padilha said he will defend himself in court.

PAKISTAN ARMY ACT GIVE KULBHUSHAN JADHAV’S DEATH SENTENCE

Sushma Swaraj has cautioned Pakistan of “consequences” if it proceeds with the death sentence of  Kulbhushan Jadhav.
Swaraj, speaking in the parliament on Jadhav’s death sentence, said India would go to any extent to “save” Jadhav, who she termed a “son of India”.
“I would caution the Pakistan government to consider the consequences for our bilateral relationship if they proceed on this matter,” she said, as quoted by Indian media.
The external affairs minister labelled the charges against Jadhav as “concocted” and claimed there was no evidence of wrongdoing by him.
On Monday, Pakistan sentenced Kulbhushan Jadhav to death for carrying out espionage and sabotage activities in Balochistan and Karachi. Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa confirmed the death sentence awarded by the Field General Court Martial under the Pakistan Army Act.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has accused Pakistan of attempting a pre-planned murder of former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav and asserted India will do whatever it takes to ensure his release. He was speaking at the Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year Awards in Mumbai last night.
Mr. Singh said that Jadhav is not a spy and should be released. He went out of India for business. Pakistan agencies kidnapped him. He was carrying an Indian passport. The Home Minister asserted if needed government will take the issue to international platform. Singh maintained India won’t hesitate to take strong steps to secure Jadhav’s release.
Jadhav was reportedly arrested on March 3 last year by Pakistan security officials allegedly in Balochistan which. He was sentenced to death by a military court in a secret trial and the Pakistan’s army chief has approved his execution.
Army veterans today protested outside the Pakistan High Commission over Kulbhushan Jadhav death sentence by Pakistan Military court. The Ex-Naval officer Jadhav was abducted by Pakistan intelligence agency from Iran and later he was charged with spying against Islamabad.
