Born on 27thSeptember, 1907, in Punjab, Bhagat Singh grew up in a family who was deeply involved in political activities. Later, he joined the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association and met prominent revolutionaries including Rajguru, Sukhdev and Azad.

However, Bhagat Singh was successful in avoiding arrest.
In the April of 1929, Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt threw two bombs into the Assembly chamber from its public gallery while it was in session. As the smoke from the blast filled the hall the duo threw leaflets while chanting the slogan “InquilabZindabad!”.The nominal intention was to protest against the Trade Disputes and Public Safety Bill. But the bombs were not intended to kill. Singh and Dutt were subsequently arrested and put into jail.
