Modi govt’s track record on women safety in Delhi shows BJP’s true mindset

2 02 2015
Sunday, 1 February
The BJP is deliberately avoiding any debate on issues concerning important issues for Delhi, since its track record during the last eight months since it has been controlling Delhi.
It is trying to mislead the people of Delhi on the extremely important issue of women safety since the official figures about crimes against women show the Narendra Modi government in very poor light.
According to Delhi Police Statistics Report for year ending 2014 given below, the Modi government which has been controlling Delhi through a backdoor cannot fool the people of Delhi any longer on women safety :
1)      The number of rape cases rose from 1571 in 2013 to 2069 in 2014 – (30% rise in 2014).
2)      Molestation cases up from 3345 in 2013 to 4179 cases in 2014 – 834 more cases of molestation registered (26% rise)
3)      Cases of snatching grew from 3316 in 2013 to 6944 in 2014 – Almost a 100 % rise.
The above mentioned figures expose the reality of BJP and Modi government on women safety.
The BJP is avoiding a debate on women safety given the fact that its leaders have a clear anti-women mindset, which is evident from the statements of various BJP leaders :
  • Sakshi Maharaj, BJP MP from Unnao (7 January, 2015) : “Hindu women should give birth to at least four children.” “We have accepted the slogan ‘Hum do, hamara ek’. Now these traitors are not satisfied. They have given another slogan ‘Hum do aur hamara….’ They are advocating marriage of a girl to a girl, boy to another boy. This is what the last government did,”
“This is why I… want to request women to give birth to at least four children. Give one to sadhus and ascetics.
  • ML Khattar, BJP’s Haryana chief minister (10 Oct, 2014) : “If a girl is dressed decently, a boy will not look at her in the wrong way, If you want freedom, why don';t they just roam around naked? Freedom has to be limited. These short clothes are western influences. Our country';s tradition asks girls to dress decently.”
“Pre-marital sex occurs when the minds of girls and boys are not on the right track”
  • Yogi Adityanath, BJP MP from Gorakhpur 30 Aug 2014) : “If they take one Hindu girl, we will take 100 Muslims girls. One community is allowed to spread anarchy. If the government is not doing anything, then the Hindus will have to take matters into their own hands.”
The BJP does not want a debate on the serious issue of women safety since it has no agenda on it and it cannot match the AAP vision on women safety for the national capital. (Please find attached the AAP manifesto for women)

Modi govt stands exposed on 1984 anti-Sikh riots probe

2 02 2015

Sunday, 01 February 2015
In case the leaked news reports about a pane headed by a former Supreme Court judge having recommended setting up of a Special Investigation Team to probe the 1984 anti-Sikh riots are correct, then it is a severe indictment of the Narendra Modi led NDA government.
The Modi government owes an explanation to the country and the families of the riots victims in particular as to why it played politics on the issue and has so far delayed setting-up of the SIT since it came to power eight months back.
All that was required by the Modi government was to accept the recommendation made by the Arvind Kejriwal government of Delhi, which in its cabinet meeting on January 30, had strongly recommended setting-up of a SIT to probe the cases wrongly closed by the Delhi Police.
The Prime Minister himself and home minister Mr Rajnath Singh maintained a mysterious silence on numerous reminders sent by Arvind Kejriwal and Mr HS Phoolka during last eight months, requesting implementation of the decision to set-up the SIT.
It has been three decades since the worst riots in the history of national capital took place and since then many complainants and witnesses have already died. In case, the Modi government was at all serious, it should not have wasted another year for mere petty politics.
This is not for the first time that the Modi government has played with the emotions of the anti-Sikh riots victims.  In November last, when there was a possibility of by-elections taking place to three assembly seats of Delhi, the home ministry leaked the information about enhanced compensation for the victims families.
However, on being questioned by the Election Commission, the Modi government used the convenient excuse that no such decision was taken.
The Aam Aadmi Party strongly condemns the attitude of the Modi government on the probe into the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and promises the families of the victims that it will renew its decision after being voted to form the government in Delhi on February 7

Ukraine mass graves West still silent about Odessa tragedy,

The UN investigation of the Odessa tragedy and mass graves in Ukraine is virtually not operating, and the West is trying to keep silent about these topics, RIA Novosti quoted Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov as saying. Moscow has raised the issue during the UN Security Council meetings, but the Western diplomats are trying “not to react to them,” he said, describing their position as “double standards.” Ukrainian officials said that 48 anti-Maidan activists died during a fire at Odessa’s House of Unions on May 2 last year, but local deputies said more than 100 people were killed.

Hong Kong pro-democracy protesters return to streets

2 02 2015

In Hong Kong, thousands of pro-democracy protesters returned to the streets for the first mass demonstration since they shut down parts of the city late last year, demanding full democracy in the former British colony. Organizers said the protest yesterday was intended to be peaceful and not a repeat of the so called Occupy Central campaign, in which demonstrators shut down key streets for two and half months beginning in late September.
Thousands of police personnel monitored the march, but there were no reports of disturbances or arrests. Authorities cleared protest camps in December without granting the demonstrators any concessions. The protesters are demanding Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying to resign and Beijing reverse its decision to screen candidates for the territory’s 2017 election.

Witnesses said Boko Haram rebels opened hostilities around 3:00 am (0200 GMT) and that heavy fighting was ongoing at the southern edge of the city. “The whole city is in fear,” said resident Adam Krenuwa. “People are afraid of what will happen if Boko Haram defeats the security forces.” The group’s last effort to seize Maiduguri just one week ago was repulsed by the military. However, the militants managed to seize the town of Monguno just 125 kilometers (80 miles) outside the city, as well as a military base.

Search resumes for 86 still missing from December’s AirAsia crash

There were 162 people on board. The national search and rescue agency has had to take a two-day break, owing to bad weather conditions in the Java Sea. A total of 68 rescue divers from this and related agencies set about raising the airplane’s fuselage, as the “focus today is to find bodies that could be trapped” there or “buried in the mud” on the seabed underneath, the official, who is also coordinating the search, told AFP. New evidence has revealed one of the pilots’ negligence, now thought to have led to the crash.

Merkel rules out debt relief for Greece

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has rejected the possibility of providing Greece with any debt relief. This decision could stoke tensions with the new left-wing Greek government and its international creditors. “There has already been voluntary debt forgiveness by private creditors, banks have already slashed billions from Greece’s debt,” Merkel said in an interview with the Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper published on Saturday. “I do not envisage fresh debt cancellation,” she added.
