Campaign for Assembly elections in Karnataka to end

The election campaign for the Karnataka Assembly Election will conclude this evening, 48 hours before the state goes to the polls on Saturday. BJP President Amit Shah held a road show in Badami, where Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is pitted against Sriramulu of BJP. The party's chief ministerial candidate B S Yeddyurappa also accompanied Mr Shah in the road show.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi has said that his party fought a very good campaign, it stood together, raised fundamental issues and laid down a vision for the development of Karnataka. Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru today, he said, manifesto released by Congress is voice of people. He countered the BJP by saying that their campaign only focussed on targeting and making personal attacks on him and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

He took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly making baseless allegations, distracting on issues and for spreading hatred and anger. He also charged that Mr. Modi has decimated Indian foreign policy.

AIR correspondent reports that the BJP's show of strength in Badami today challenging Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on the last day of public campaign has set the perspective for Yeddyurappa, who is aspiring to be the next Chief Minister. Congress is trying to retain the state and has campaigned vigorously in the last few months.

JD(S) being a regional party has emphasised on wide ranging issues spanning from land, water and language to welfare of farmers, poor and women. To talk about constituencies, Bangalore South is the biggest constituency in Karnataka, in terms of electorates. It is held by the BJP. The party has fielded its sitting MLA M Krishnappa from here, while INC has fielded RK Ramesh. With an electorate size of merely 1,60,199 voters, Sringeri is the smallest constituency. BJP has fielded its sitting MLA D N Jeevaraj and Congress candidate T D Rajegowda, is challenging him in this election.
