200 arrested big Hong Kong democracy rally
2072014
Hong Kong police have arrested nearly 200 people after tens of thousands of residents joined a massive march to push for democracy.

Anger at mainland China has never been greater after Beijing warned recently it holds the ultimate authority over the freewheeling capitalist enclave despite promises to allow a high degree of autonomy after British rule ended in 1997.
Police said 196 people were arrested for unlawful assembly and preventing police from carrying out their duties.
Police said 98,600 people joined the rally at its peak, while organisers estimated the size at 510,000.
Participants had hoped to surpass the 500,000 that turned out in 2003 for the city’s biggest-ever demonstration to protest against a planned anti-subversion law.

Women going to pubs in short skirts is against Indian culture’:
2072014
After endorsing and supporting the moral policing goon and Sri Ram Sena Chief Pramod Muthalik’s view that women going to pubs in short skirts is against Indian culture, Goa PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalkar added another controversy saying ‘bikinis should be banned on state’s beaches’.
| |
“Wearing bikinis should be banned on Goa’s beaches,” said Dhavalikar, state’s Public Works Department Minister, comments that may not go down well with hordes of foreign tourists who throng Goa’s shores every year to soak in the sun.
“We should not allow girls with bikinis to enter public places because it very difficult to control people who arrive in Goa from different states. By the time victim reaches the police it is too late. It is better to control such type of activities on the beaches,” he said.
Dhavalikar, whose Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party is an ally of ruling BJP, said even Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was in favour of such a ban.
“Chief minister knows it very well what I say. He has already started taking action against massage parlours. He will take up this issue (banning bikinis) in a different way to stop this nonsense,” he said.
Parrikar was not available for comment but BJP distanced itself from the remarks, saying bikinis cannot be banned.
“According to me, something which is not a sin across India, cannot be a sin in Goa,” BJP Goa spokesman Wilfred Mesquita told a news agency.
He said when bikinis are not banned across India “we cannot ban them in Goa”.
“Why bikinis are required to swim in the sea. In earlier days, there was no bikini (but girls swam),” Dhavalikar said.
“Young girls going to pubs in short dresses does not fit in our culture. What will happen to our Goan culture, if we allow this?… The scantily dressed girls visiting pubs project wrong culture and this should be stopped,” he had said on Tuesday.
Congress party’s Goa unit has reacted strongly to “moral policing” by Dhavalikar and couriered a mini skirt to the minister’s residence as a mark of protest.
“We will not tolerate moral policing. The Constitution allows those above 18 years to decide for themselves what is good or bad,” Congress spokesman Durgadas Kamat said.

Argentina beat Swiss : Belgium beat USA 2-1

Belgium beat USA 2-1 to set up a QF date with Argentina” border
Belgium defeated United States of America 2-1 in a pulsating contest, while Angel Di Maria came to Argentina’s rescue in the dying minutes of extra-time to set up a quarterfinal clash against each other in the FIFA World Cup.
Kevin De Bruyne and substitute Romelu Lukaku’s scored two goals in the first half of extra-time before teenager Julian Green, who came in the second period of extra-time, reduced the deficit for USA with his first touch.Belgium will now face two-time champions Argentina in the quarterfinals in Brasilia on Saturday after the La Albiceleste’s rode on a goal from Di Maria deep into additional time to beat Switzerland 1-0 in Sao Paulo in another last-16 match. After both Belgium and USA failed to break the stalemate in regulation time, it took a super effort from De Bruyne to open the scoring in the 92nd minute. The Wolfsburg midfielder leapt onto Lukaku’s assist to fire low into the corner. Lukaku then doubled the lead in the 106th minute, this time with an assist from De Bruyne, to put the game beyound USA’s reach. But USA did not give up without a fight and fired back when Bayern Munich teenager Green pulled one back with a first-time volley from a Michael Bradley pass. Belgium had to go through some nervous moments in the final 10 minutes of the match but did enough to hold on to their slender lead. Earlier Di Maria’s scored a late extra-time goal to help Argentina eke out a hard-fought 1-0 win over Switzerland and progress to the quarterfinals. He didn’t score but four-time world footballer of the year and skipper Lionel Messi set up Di Maria for the only goal of the match deep into extra-time after both the teams were tied 0-0 in regulation 90 minutes. As expected Argentina controlled the lions share of possession in the match but their strikers failed breach the stubborn Swiss defence. The game plan for the Swiss was to mark Messi closely and create chances in counter-attack. They managed to do that for most part of the game before the Argentine skipper came up with a brilliant run to set it up for Di Maria who made no mistake in finding the back of the net with a left-footer in the 118th minute. A goalless draw seemed inevitable until Messi produced one of his patented dribbles to set up Di Maria. After the change of ends it was all Argentina as they exerted relentless pressure on the Swiss defence with persistent attacks. Marcos Rojo broke into the left of the Swiss penalty area but fired straight at Diego Benaglio before Gonzalo Higuain’s close-range header was acrobatically tipped over by the Swiss goalie. Rodrigo Palacio, who came in for Ezequiel Lavezzi with just 16 minutes remaining, was straight in action as he within seconds headed a Messi cross wide from six yards out. Swiftly, Messi gathered a poor clearance on the edge of the box, side-stepped his marker and fires a low drive, which Benaglio did well to first keep out and then jump on amid flying boots.

The Aam Aadmi Party strongly condemns the role of Bihar Police in shielding the culprits who attempted to rape the party’s candidate from Buxar Lok Sabha constituency, Dr Shweta Pathak.
The incident reflects the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, where the hoodlums who attempted to rape a 33 year-old medical doctor last week are still at large.
What can be more shameful than the role played by the state police in the entire matter ? The police instead of nabbing the culprits who tried to commit a heinous crime in broad daylight, brutally beat up Dr Pathak in the police station.
Dr Pathak, who had not even recovered from the trauma of attempted rape against her, went through hell again when the police in complete connivance with the relatives of the accused, beat her up, causing severe injuries in her neck, arms and legs.
Photographs posted on social media by the local people and friends of Dr Pathak show the extent of police brutality on a woman victim, who was demanding justice.
The AAP demands that all the police officials involved in this shameful incident should be immediately suspended and a judicial inquiry be ordered on how the police handled the entire matter.
The AAP leaders will be visiting Bihar to meet Dr Pathak and the party will submit a memorandum to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), seeking an independent inquiry into the entire matter.
Regards
AAP Media Cell
